Should bar be boycotted for turning away soldiers?

Reading this on BBC news site and apparently over 30,000 people have joined a Facebook campaign calling for their licence to be revoked and for the bar to be boycotted.

A possible overreaction or understandable given the circumstances?

I wasn't aware that bars/pubs did or even could turn away men in uniform but if the bar has experienced trouble in the past then perhaps you could understand the policy.

The bar owner has already apologised and said that staff had no idea that a funeral was taking place.

Seems like an incredibly sad story all round Sad

I was In the Navy back in the early 90's, we weren't allowed off base in uniform due to IRA terrorist threat, but other threats remain. Surely the landlord realises that they would not have been in uniform on mass without good reason.

you would have thought that Mr Brown would have known that a soldier was having a funeral service round at the cathederal just two minutes from his bar . But apparently the soldiers were told it was not to do with their uniform but there faces didn't fit and they were to leave - great way for the grieving brother to be treated when he was in a mess due to the proceedings

Whether it should be boycotted or not, after reading the reviews I wouldn't even waste my time trying to go in. All those reviews can't be wrong and they are way older than this news report. I'm amazed this business is still going.

BofD - it has somewhere in the region of 14 veggie meals on the menu and 4-5 vegan meals on the menu, so if you are veggie then it is a good place to eat. TBH the food used to be allright around 7-8 years ago - any dish for a fiver and you choice your own veg from a selection.

A good place to eat if the doorman lets you in. Their entry code seems a little random to say the least. I wouldn't even try, I've never seen so many bad reviews for one place all saying the same thing!

It's a nice bar.

It's had a strict entry policy for years and years, and it stops trouble. It's about the only place you can go out in that city in the evening and be guaranteed no trouble before you leave.

I don't see why soldiers should be guaranteed entry to anywhere, let alone drinking premises.

The boycott is ridiculous.

Ineffective, surely - a boycott organised by people who can't get into somewhere, joined by people who also can't get in, or who live too far away to go. Wow. Yeah, that's going to work :s
