so ?

Other workers in other sectors have had annual leave restricted during the Olympics too .

I have no time for any for the transport workers who are demanding more pay etc over the Olympic period .

flatpackhamster · 25/06/2012 19:26

They're taking action because they're a bunch of greedy, massively overpaid crooks who are holding the country to ransom. There's no justification for this sort of behaviour.

citybranch · 25/06/2012 22:40

I wonder if the people who work on the Oyster helpline are massively overpaid. Anyone know?

SardineQueen · 26/06/2012 09:41

It's interesting because I had little sympathy with the tube drivers until DH told me that their hours and shifts were being completely changed over the Olympic period and the way it is changing made me think well yes actually they do deserve some compensation for all that upheaval.

So I imagine that others wanting compensation, also have had their working patterns / hours or similar changed in a way that is fairly substantial.

DH is not allowed any time off over the summer and he is not going to be on strike - it is not across TFL that this is happening.

SardineQueen · 26/06/2012 09:42

Oh and he's not going to be compensated either, dammit Grin

It is a shame for the kids but it's just a one off. Makes things interesting with the childcare too but there you go.

The RMT accepted a 4.75% paydeal in February which then magically wasn't enough in June. In my book that's a fantastic deal given most of us won't be seeing any payrise at all this year and will consider ourselves lucky if we have a job left at the end of 2012.

Basically it's just opportunism. The union just sees a chance to try & grab more cash for their members by betting that the govt won't want the Olympic headlines to be about traffic chaos.

It's self-serving, greedy and gives unions a bad name. They are hardly the only group of people whom are going to be working that bit harder of the Olympic period. There are loads of others who will including thousands upon thousands of unpaid volunteers who want the country to be highlighted in a positive way.

JuliaScurr · 26/06/2012 12:18

niceguy2 if 'the country' needs highlighting, get the govt to do it. The reason the RMT get decent pay rises is because they don't roll over for this kind of nonsense. Consider yourself lucky - oh my sides. People like you with your pitiful gratitude have brought nothing but misery. Read some history.

Good for them.

I support the bus drivers who were on strike last friday too.

Amazing how so many people view strikers as 'selfish' or 'greedy' seems its the fat cat bosses that are selfish and greedy not the people that actually do the work.

MrJudgeyPants · 26/06/2012 22:53

What I can't understand is why we put up with this nonsense in the first place. The DLR has been run wih driverless trains for donkeys years, why can't we make the rest of the network driverless too?
