Mothercare has a brill mother/baby room for feeding/changing. And a nice bench outside as well so you can feed your baby and put your toddler in the little car ride and have some peace for a few pence.

mummytosteven · 27/02/2006 09:38

what's wrong with Mothercare? apart from their increasing tendency to only have a decent range at out of town stores, I like their stuff. Only really get the clothes in the sales, but hey.

zippitippitoes · 27/02/2006 09:46

I think the main things wrong with Mothercare is at least in our local out of town store that

it is too warehouse like, rather bleak

the range is quite bland with no particular house style ie it has a bought in feel

it has a design by numbers feel, no sense of new ideas or inspiration

but all of the above are typical of a sort of general high street laziness and malaise

rather than being unique to Mothercare which does at least still exist to sell the basics which would otherwise not be obtainable locally here

unless of course they closed down and left an opening for someone else who would inevitably be more expensive and still not survive

Marina · 27/02/2006 09:59

Why is Mothercare common and say, Next or Adams not common? I think their basic ranges are generally nicer than either of the above, tbh.
I think there is a lot wrong with their warehousing/distribution networks and that makes it an annoying place to shop, but it would no more occur to me to think of Mothercare shoppers as inferior than any other big high street chain Shock

Bugsy2 · 27/02/2006 10:31

I think Mothercare is expensive. You can buy everything they sell cheaper elsewhere. Their children's clothes are ok, but nothing special and of a no better quality than H&M or Primark, both of which are considerably cheaper.
All the baby equipment can be bought from any other supplier for less. The only advantage I see to Mothercare is that they tend to have everything in the same place.

Marina · 27/02/2006 10:53

We never bought anything big from them bugsy but in our high street they seem to be the only shop selling pretty, inexpensive multi-packs of girls undies for the world's most hapless potty trainee!

zippitippitoes · 27/02/2006 11:01

I imagine there are more branches of Mothercare so more available we don't have primark or h&m

cod · 27/02/2006 11:02

nothing wrong iwht mothercare BUT the advert ahs popened "us" up to the masses - that MUST be a bad hting

Caligula · 27/02/2006 11:05

The mothercare I used to go to had the shitty nappy change room and the breastfeeding room in the same place.

Nice.

Put me off.

Is that snobby?

poppadum · 27/02/2006 11:16

"BUT the advert ahs popened "us" up to the masses - that MUST be a bad hting"

Why? Surely there's room for everyone, this being a website?

Caligula · 27/02/2006 11:17

pmsl at cod's disapproval of the masses

Caligula · 27/02/2006 11:26

Can't you do what Cardinal Wolsey did and carry around a pomander made of an orange stuffed with cloves and other aromatic spices?

I'm sure that lot on the craft threads will have the inside knowledge of how to make one of those!

JanH · 27/02/2006 11:26

Do we need a new selective mumsnet then, cod? With an 11+ type test before registration is permitted - questions about Boden, child model agencies, Mark Warner, 4x4s, Ocado, Elizabeth Duke, radio 4 programmes etc?

What should they call it?

cod · 27/02/2006 11:27

ooh no to mark warner boden and child modelling
sheesh jan! you shodul know!

JanH · 27/02/2006 11:27

Trick questions, cod.

Caligula · 27/02/2006 11:27

We could have snobsnet vs riffraffnet

I don't know which side I'd be on. Don't do Boden and like primark but can't be doing with people who stink of smoke.

JanH · 27/02/2006 11:28

plus a few choice cod quotes for interpretation. That'd weed the buggers out.

cod · 27/02/2006 11:28

ooh JAN you are president!

JanH · 27/02/2006 11:29

and lol that cod didn't say no to E Duke Grin

Caligula · 27/02/2006 11:29

I noticed that!

JanH · 27/02/2006 11:30

Love snobsnet and riffraffnet, C. You can be Chief Examiner.
