Marital coercion - a new one on me

I'd been wondering whether Vicky Pryce, Chris Huhne's ex was going to plead guilty to the charge of perverting the course of justice for taking her husband's speeding points. She could hardly plead not guilty, having already admitted it in writing. If she pleaded guilty, that would have made it almost impossible to defend himself successfully, I thought.

But apparently she is pleading not guilty and according to The Guardian: "Pryce's barrister, Aaron Watkins, told Mr Justice Saunders, sitting at Southwark crown court, that his client would be advancing a defence of marital coercion."

Has anyone ever heard of this before? It seems a bit much that an independent woman with her own career could argue that her husband had coerced her into taking his points. Any lawyers who could comment?

Who can say what the dynamics of a relationship are behind closed doors.

I'll be interested to see if this one gets off the starting blocks. From what I've read, loyalty to the spouse isn't enough to be deemed coercion. You have to be acting under duress.
