Really? I mean having seeming awful doesn't of course HAVE to mean you do badthings, but hapow can they disregard this all together?

My DD's school merely burnt down infront of them, during school hours, they were trapped on the field terrified whilst it imploded etc etc and it's scarred her significantly. I'm not a psychologist or psychiatrist (although I have psychology and sociology O levels) but really? Being shot twice and having 16 friends and your teacher, that person who is in parentis killed infront of you wouldn't "shape your personality" to some degree?

Im not saying I'm right, I'm in no way exciusing him, but really?

I suppose it may affect your personality, but would it necessarity make you a criminal? Otherwise a good percentage of the population after ww2 would have been going around murdering and raping.

I assume his lawyer tried to blame his behaviour on what happened to him as a child, but he was convicted regardless.

Perhaps they mean no significant way in relation to the criminal behaviours. Maybe there were concerns about the lad's behaviour before Dunblane. Obviously an event like that will have an effect but maybe it was not contributory to the later criminal behaviour.

Of course, we only get part of the story, just seemed like a sweeping statement, and I guess SOME of the WW2 vets did do bad things after, but they went as adults not kids.

Nothing excuses what he did, nothing.

This a horrrible case. I can understand your point because how can something like that not have an effect on you?

I seem to recall one of the news reports said there were concerns about his behavioural issues before attending the school. Will see if I can find it. There must be a lot more background to this that we aren't party to.

flippinada · 22/03/2012 17:19

It's mentioned here in the BBC News report.

"Dr Rajan Darjee, who interviewed Liddell six times and looked at reports on his early life, said records had shown Liddell displayed behavioural problems before the massacre."

Ahhhhh, so the Daily Mail once again misses an important point?

The physcologist said that in terms of sex offending, 'Dunblane' played no part in shaping this behaviour and his sexual devience.

I think that we should leave this upto the expert doing the assessment, who will have detailed information, from Ryan, himself.

There have been other instances before this crime and all they will be seeking to do, is to together a treatment programme and so need a diagnosois and a clear idea of the pattern behind his behaviour.

Tbf, him possibly only serving 6 year,s is a joke to what his actions have meant to his victim, regardless of why.

It was only by pure luck that she did not die from shock.

Our entire sentencing is a joke to be fair, the guy in the daily fail again today who got "life" and was due to be eligible for parole this year (been convicted of further crime now) after 8 years. Mental.

And I wasn't commenting on his sick crime, it was the comment that Dunblane hadn't affected or shaped his personality.

I don't know.

You see a story about a man like this and then contrast it to Andy Murray a fellow survivor and just... I don't know.

I suppose sexual deviances are there from an early age and something triggers them, maybe the violence part of it was from that?

Very very sad all round anyway.

I hope that poor lady gets some peace.

I often read the mail online at work skivver and today chanced upon that other story I mentioned, the guy raped her and has finally got caught due to DNA, he was convicted even though she is now dead having been murdered in South Africa. That poor bloody woman!!!!! Savagely beaten and raped 25 yrs ago by him the bloody murdered by someone totally different 6 years ago.
oh my actual god, that poor lady.

That poor woman.

The photograph of him as a little boy is heartbreaking though - to see what he became.

QOD · 23/03/2012 16:27

Bloody hell, I just realised he's the man who raped the little girl in Ashford some years back.
