I haven't got much to add to this, but just read it and thought "wow!" - it's such an amazing story. Still trying to get my head around it.

When two became one in the womb

Lydia fairchild is her name

But she's not describing it correctly, look at her post again Prh, it was a growth therefore she assumed it was an ID twin, nowhere in her post was she being factual about a particular medical condition.

There are probably a lot of possibilities that her cousin's condition could have been and unless she's able to say what it actually was then assuming that it was an ID twin is utterly pointless. People must not realise that other people Google these threads because they've just had a diagnosis....yep there's a disclaimer from mumsnet that tells us that they don't check people's qualifications, however family anecdotes about someone growing their own twin are exactly that, anecdotes. They don't contain facts, and if they do they are rarely completely true.

It could have been foetus in foetu, it could well have been a Teratoma, or maybe it was something else. In a previous post I worded it so that it I thought it might be a Teratoma. This is purely because I rushed my post without reading it over. I've obviously no idea if it was a Teratoma.

Someone should tell Jeremy Kyle, his paternity tests are not 100%.

According to her the doctor told her cousin the growth was an undeveloped twin. She has, admittedly, jumped from that to it being an ID twin but the description as an undeveloped twin matches foetus in foetu.

It may, of course, be that her cousin misunderstood what the doctors told her or that lljkk misunderstood her cousin. But for most people that would be a pretty dramatic thing to be told so I tend to think it is probably true.

Mmmmm... brains

2nds · 27/05/2016 13:49

Prh where does she say that the doctor told her cousin it was an undeveloped twin? I'll go back and read over it but I don't recall her saying that.

2nds · 27/05/2016 14:00

I must be blind, I've just looked yes she did say that but again it's a secondhand story. I get these secondhand stories all the time, they are very vague. Speaking from the point of view from someone who has personally been left traumatised by a massive Teratoma (again not a twin), people should really be aware that these threads are being read by people who are only just trying to come to terms with these conditions.
If she could clarify what it was that her cousin had then that would great, it may even offer someone reading the thread a little bit of hope, but just to say these things in such a vague way is not helpful.

Here is another condition related to the esophagus that seems similar, so who knows it might not even have been undeveloped twin? childrens.memorialhermann.org/services/esophageal-atresia/

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 27/05/2016 22:04

Yes they're called chimeras. I don't know if it's it the same story but I was watching an episode of Weird or what on YouTube.
This couple were getting divorced and their mum was applying for child maintenance, but she firstly had to prove she was their mother, so she went for the DNA test not expecting the result which determined she was not the mother of her children even though she had given birth to them. Now finding out your not mother to one, They may have first tampered with the fact that the child could have been switched at birth, but not all 3.

Obviously assuming the test was wrong. She asked for a repeat but the result was the same.
It turned out she was actually biologically auntie to her children rather than mother.
Very fascinating.
And even more fascinating to think that had she not have applied for CM she would never have known she was chimera.
Even more fascinating again, is. Out of all of us on Mumsnet at least one of us or our DPS will probably be chimera but could never know.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 27/05/2016 22:05

Yes Giles. I remember her name now

BeJayKayven · 27/05/2016 22:08

This is probably the oldest ZOMBIE thread I have ever seen
😕😡

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 27/05/2016 22:08

We may mock Jeremy Kyle and his guests, but when they sit there and swear that "someone is the father of their child, maybe to the best of their knowledge. They're telling the truth, because I honestly do believe some guests. When they sit there and say. I promise these children are yours. I've not been with any one else. Could chimerism have played a part in these instances

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 27/05/2016 22:09

Oh I didn't know it was a zombie. Still interesting and thought provoking though.
