DISGUSTED whilst watching BBC news........

riamay2011 · 23/02/2012 18:12

Just sat down watching BBC news at 6 and saw the footage of the lady wanting a termination due to baby being a girl. I feel sick to my stomach that these women think like this. DISGUSTING. Why have un-protected sex to run the risk of terminating an innocent child and putting your body through it. I couldnt live with myself.
I would actually slap the woman if she was in front of me right now.
Soooooo angry Angry

I may be wrong as I am a bit slow but I thought it was a set up to catch out the doctor Confused

IAmBooyhoo · 23/02/2012 18:20

maybe she'd want to slap you too.

JambalayaCodfishPie · 23/02/2012 18:20

She was an undercover reporter......

Cazm2 · 23/02/2012 18:22

I find it terribly sad your not pleased with what your blessed with. They are actually outlawing in France next year you won't be able to find the sex to stop gender selection.

blackoutthesun · 23/02/2012 18:24

so you want to slap an undercover reporter?

JambalayaCodfishPie · 23/02/2012 18:24

I'm not saying it isn't happening, btw, but to slap that woman would be ridiculously foolish on your part.

riamay2011 · 23/02/2012 18:31

didnt know it was an undercover reporter as was watching and trying to read some posts on MN but STILL there are women out there that do this and doctors that would perform a termination under those circumstances is beyond wrong.
My comment about 'slapping' was purely to show how upset the subject makes me. Im not putting myself out there to be a target. This site is a forum and i am allowed to put my opinions across. I have seen worse on MN.

Sometimes i really feel disheartened when i post on MN as i feel the OP always becomes the victim.
Shouldnt be the case

My comment was purely to show that slapping this woman would be stupid. Grin

Emsgale · 23/02/2012 18:33

Abortion purley because of gender is very sad and illegal here (britain) but abortion generally can be needed.for some v sad and unfortunate cicumstances im very lucky and havnt had to concider it ever and hope I dont have to either!Xx

riamay2011 · 23/02/2012 18:35

completely agree emsgale

IAmBooyhoo · 23/02/2012 19:04

victim of what? it's a thread not a mugging. you post an OP you have to expect responses that dont agree with you. might be an idea not to mention slapping people just because you feel angry. yes yes i know you wouldn't actually slap her, but that just makes it all the more ridiculous that you would say it.

Northernlurker · 23/02/2012 19:11

Op - I'm not crazy about your terminology tbh. I agree termination because of gender is an abhorrent practice but what do you mean by 'an innocent child' - eh? Surely all pregnancies feature the innocent?
Leaving that aside I think you should bear in mind that gender selection like this is not only the responsibility of the mother but results from the feelings of the father, wider family and community at large as well. If you want to slpa anything. slap the society that hates women.

LiamsMummyJaz · 23/02/2012 19:17

OP I understood what you meant and agree 100%.

blueyonder22 · 23/02/2012 19:19

I have to agree with the op. I find so many posters on mn so judgmental. It is obviously a turn of phrase and she is quite clearly not going to slap anyone. Personally I find that when such a serious subject is raised that few fail to comment on it but instead choose to pick faults with a silly expression just ridiculous. It is obvious no one is going to be slapped. For what it's worth I agree with you it is incredibly upsetting that this goes on. Abortion for the wrong gender is just wrong. That is a completely separate issue to abortion being available to people. I and I would expect the op agrees with abortion being available but it should not in any circumstance be available to someone solely because they are unhappy with the sex.

JambalayaCodfishPie · 23/02/2012 19:29

I don't think anybody disagrees that its shocking. My amusement comes from the fact that her rant was completely misdirected and she hadn't actually been paying much attention at all to the tv piece she felt so compelled to rant about.

milk · 23/02/2012 19:31

riamay2011, I am disgusted too :(

ahhhhhpushit · 23/02/2012 19:37

Abortion due to gender easily gets though in this country because the woman simply says her mental health will suffer due to pressure from her family if the child is a girl. Ive dealt with this in my line of work.

Its the reason some NHS hospitals wont tell you the sex - luton & dunstable is one.

tethersend · 23/02/2012 19:48

There is an interesting thread on this in the Feminism section at the moment; the thrust of it is (I paraphrase), if a woman is able to terminate because she doesn't want a baby, then why should she not be allowed to terminate because she does not want a boy/girl?

Northernlurker · 23/02/2012 19:49

Exactly ahhhh - the effects on a woman's mental or physical health of continuing a pregnancy is the reason for many abortions because we do NOT have abortion on demand. I cannot go to my doctor and say 'abort the pregnancy because I say so', I can go and say 'abort the pregnancy because I can't cope with it' Reasons here. I will actually be quite surprised if any of teh clinics concerned are found to have broken the law because of the huge pressures placed on women which cause them to reach this decision.

blueyonder22 · 23/02/2012 19:52

My first 2 scans were at st Thomas'. We were allowed to ask the sex for the first but by the time the second came round they changed their policy for this reason, I'm not sure if that's still the case but I wouldn't be surprised. Trouble is if you're hell bent on having a particular gender you will just pay to go private.... Luckily we have moved as for my current 3rd pregnancy I'd like to find out as I have 2 girls. That being said I wouldn't know what to do with a boy!

ahhhhhpushit · 23/02/2012 19:53

Exactly Northern - I'm almost certain none would have broken the law.

Whether I agree or not is a different matter (and irrelevant to this thread!).
