Sean Penn is as entitled to have a view and to air it publicly as anyone else is, including posters on this thread. His nationality is irrelevant- he's American, not America. Its silly to hold someone morally responsible for policies they had nothing to do with and, in many cases, opposed.

However, there is a problem with his outburst. Which is that he's talking complete, total and utter bollocks, and evidently has no idea about the Falklands situation. His nationality and occupation don't render him unworthy of being listened to. His ignorance does that all by itself.

noddyholder - He's all yours!

When Penn has read a bit more history I look forward to him arguing that the USA should give California and Texas back to Mexico.

I've just seen the clip. Is he wearing a wig?

Clytaemnestra · 16/02/2012 13:26

I reckon its a stick on moustache too.

He is a moron, I find it funny how Americans so often associate empire with Britain and Britain alone, all that land below them that speaks Spanish and is full of people with names like Lopez clearly has been that way since the dawn of time.

If it's all about vicinity then I look forward to his support when we invade and take over the whole of Ireland, will not complain when Canada takes back Alaska, and states that the Nazi's where perfectly entitled to invade Poland as it was right on their doorstep anyway.

Well to be fair to Penn he may at least have heard one side of the story and Argentina do claim (and have offered evidence to the UN) that the Islands were settled by Argentinians when the British arrived and cleared the islands. Given that Britain just refuses to discuss the issue until Argentian accept the principle of self-determination you can't 100% blame him for that.

But still.... nob, yes indeed Grin

It does not help us that of the 16 colonies remaining the world most of them are British. It does make us look...well...Colonial. The fact that all of our Colonies have been told they can do what they wish and chose to stay as Colonies and that Gibraltar for example has spoken in the UN in defence of the Falkland Islanders right to self determination...let's just ignore that.

The fact that the only difference between this and the US's relationhip with say California is that the Falkland land mass is not attached to the UK - let's just ignore that too.
