What do you think about the John Terry business?

Is it possible he could go to prison? (if found guilty)

What do you think about the case being brought? Absolutely right and he should have the book thrown at him after a fair trial, or over-reaction and waste of tax-payers money? Or something in-between?

You can say you think anything, if you say it's a fact that is different.

but there are still double standards within the FA.

Why has John Terry been charged and Luis Suarez has not?

That's not a fair comparison though is it? There was no proof Suarez said anything, whereas JT was seen on TV saying what he said...

"Why has John Terry been charged and Luis Suarez has not?"

Because the FA have quite sensibly said that while the matter is in the hands of the courts they will not carry out their own process as there is a distinct risk that any prnouncements they make in their findings, either for or against Terry, could prejudice the trial.

Plus the FA is a 3-ring circus, and Terry will be better off taking his chance in the courts.
Suarez didn't go to court as the complaint wasn't made to the police.

A member of the public reported JT, therefore this has become a criminal investigation. This was not the case for Suarez.
JT is a knob of the highest order imho.

limitedperiodonly · 07/02/2012 20:25

"John Terry is a knob but the he's denied all charges of racism. It could however work out cheaper for him in the long run because the courts wont fine him as much as the FA would IF he was found guilty."

Not sure Terry has entered a plea, as is his prerogative.

In the event of a conviction the court fine will be at the most £2,500 and the FA will impose their own sanctions.

The knock-on of being a person convicted of a racist offence will be enormous in terms of sponsorship. Even if he is acquitted sponsors might be keen to distance themselves.

I trust Terry has squirrelled money away in anticipation of that unhappy event.

To draw another sporting parallel, of course it would be possible for the FA to suspend JT pending the outcome of the court case.

Several years ago the British Horseracing Authority suspended the riding licence of jockey Keiron Fallon after he was charged with corruption (alleged race fixing). The grounds for the suspension were that he brought the name of racing into disrepute.

Subsequently he was found not guilty in a trial and his licence reinstated. He was then handed a ban after giving a urine test that showed positive for cocaine, but that's another matter!

My point is of course they could, and should, suspend him. It's not as if he'll suffer financially and anyone of us "normal" folk that found ourselves facing a similar situation would have been sacked/suspended as soon as the allegations came to light.
