Career women turn against easy divorce

I thought this article was quite interesting, about the changing attitudes of women to divorce. It appears working class women have become more liberal in their attitudes since the 70's and middle class ones more conservative. Sunday times article here

Hmm, yes. Isn't it the case though that as people become more privileged they covet even more and become conservative as a consequence? And it's right that marriage and shackles aren't viewed as one the the same thing, not for the middle classes anyway - not sure about the working and underclass.

But there's also been a 20 year backlash against feminism in the media that has distorted and misrepresented much of feminist discourse. That might have something to do with it too.

Maybe it's to do with the financial impact of divorce on the middle classes - it represents a significant loss of financial security/clout for both partners, so it's to be avoided as far as poss if it means not being able to live in the right commuter village/London postcode and having to give up the Chelsea tractor.

To people on very low incomes/benefits, it doesn't make so much difference financially.
