After the terrible loss of their first child, i feel really happy about this. (also, as a new mum over 40!)Good for them. A sibling for their little boy John.

I almost had a baby in Kirkcaldy. We were driving around the 'wilds' of Scotland - Anstruther, for those of you up here in the sticks - trying to kick start my labour on those winding, country roads (well, after a lovely fish supper at the world-famous chippy there, worth the hike out into the boonies).

It worked! But we had time to re-enter civilisation and make it back to Embra, where 'the bairn' was able to survive, thanks to a non-cottage hospital - which also charges a tenner a day for parking.

This news brought a smile to my face on a very dull day - it's lovely!

PPH, I think you're misinformed (and rather rude) about Scotland. The hospital where Jennifer was born is not a cottage hospital (If it was, they wouldn't even be able to do a CS there.). My friend's husband is a Paed Con at that hospital, he's a very wise and knowlegable man, and another friend's dd has done part of her paed con training there.

suedonim · 16/01/2006 15:19

Oh, and since when was Kircaldy 2 hours from Edinburgh?? I can drive from Aberdeen to Edinburgh in two hours!

Blu · 16/01/2006 15:19

Expat - King's, in the wilds of S London, charges £2-50 per hour for parking!
Good job I was about the same age as Ms Brown - had had chance to save up to pay for the parking.

expatinscotland · 16/01/2006 15:21

Made it all the way to the ferry at Greenock from Embra in a little over an hour once .

funnygirl · 16/01/2006 15:22

I had my baby in Forth Park Hospital in Kirkcaldy. Thankfully my DD was healthy and had no problems but I was quite relieved that she was born in Kirkcaldy and not in the "middle of nowwhere" where I was born and brought up in. At least any complications could have been seen to straight away.

Dont know where you get your info from PPH but doubt that they had their babies born in Kirkcaldy to "prove a point".

expatinscotland · 16/01/2006 15:23

Sorry, that'd be Gourock. I try to blank Greenock out of my mind wherever possible.

£2.50 an hour?!

Being up here in the boonies has its advantages, I suppose!

expatinscotland · 16/01/2006 15:24

The men up here all wear kilts and everyone eats oatcakes and hunt haggis as well.

funnygirl · 16/01/2006 15:26

Where I came from everybody ate porridge all day and we had heather growing from our ears!!

expatinscotland · 16/01/2006 15:27

And played bagpipes for entertainment.

Just like in 'The Monarch of the Glen' (DH hates that show! He says it's 'pish').

Janos · 16/01/2006 15:41

Yes, I saw this today. Lovely news! Congratulations to them both.

expatinscotland · 16/01/2006 15:43

Wow, I had no idea he is 54. He doesn't really look it.

Janos · 16/01/2006 16:02

My mum met him once at a Labour Party do - she said he was very charming and rather flirtatious

PeachyClair · 16/01/2006 16:53

Incredibly happy for the Browns . Incredbly sad that people on heere think it's acceptable to get funny (PPH) about the death of a baby! My baby failed to thrive in utero, it was touch and go but we were lucky. NOTHING I did could have prevented it. Inappropritae discussion on this day I feel.

moondog · 16/01/2006 16:59

That is lovely!
Am no gusher, but love the Gordon and Sarah show (and quite fancy him too.)

Heartwarming!!

PeachyClair · 16/01/2006 17:00

What fancying Gordon???
Have declared my interest long and loud on many occasions on MN!

Clayhead · 16/01/2006 17:42

Lovely news.

I had my dd the week before they had theirs and my ds a fortnight before they had their ds (not expecting this July though!) and felt so, so sad about their dd (sat feeding dd watching the news with tears for several days).

Congratulations to them

expatinscotland · 16/01/2006 17:43
