Mother found guilty of manslaughter after deliberately scalding her 2yo daughter UPSETTING

Basically the mother inflicted 10% burns on her 2yo daughter, using a very hot shower, because mum was angry that the poor mite soiled herself.
Neither parent sought proper medical help for the wounds and the poor babbie died of septic shock. Link

wtf is wrong with some people

Yes - it's beyond awful.

I think it might be a good idea to ask MNHQ to modify your title though, I think 'Mother found guilty of manslaughter (upsetting)' is enough. I would have prefered not to have read how in the title :(

As far as I can tell, it wasn't deliberate and that's why she was charged with manslaughter. The shower ran very hot for a few moments before settling back to normal temperature.

The mother said she failed to seek medical attention because she was afraid that social services would take her kids away and the child died a few weeks later as a result of her injuries. Her father said he thought it was nappy rash and they'd tried to treat it with creams.

It's a shocking case, but there are mums who are too scared to seek medical attention because they read that social services will whip their kids into care at the drop of a hat.
I know one mum who'd spilt a hot drink on her baby accidently and was terrified about taking the child to hospital for this reason.

Judge accepted the original injury was not deliberate.

Very sad

Tanith and of the child had lived ss would have removed the child any way

How awful you defend this person even if and I say if she didn't know the water was hot

That's is not the way to discipline a child if your virtually water boarding you child because they poked yourself ss would have be right to interview

They likely hood is unless the mother refused to work with ss or could not see why what she did was wrong the child would not have been removed

If people are so silly they can see past reporting in the sun about babysnaching ss can't see that were a parent fails someone must step in

I believe they didn't seek help because she would go to to jail not because of ss

I don't believe a burn that bad could be mistaken for nappy rash

And if you believe 10% burns are similar to nappy rash ss takening the child would have been for the best

Selfish selfish people those who defend so called parents who kill their own child in my view theirs not a crime more awful

Yuk

There's no defence of the parents: I've just repeated what was said at the trial and, since it was manslaughter and the judge agreed, I don't see where this "deliberate" comes from. It wasn't deliberate and they weren't convicted of deliberately killing their child.

What happened, according to the reports, is that the mother was cleaning up the accident and didn't realise that the water started off scalding then cooled to a more reasonable temperature. It wasn't a punishment.

The mother was convicted because she failed to seek medical attention. It's unlikely that the child would have been taken into care over the scalding incident but, thanks to all the "Evil SS took my kids for no reason" tales we see from time to time, a lot of mothers are frightened of seeking medical help if their child has an accident.

The account I read said the little girl had been ill-treated for months, and mother was known to social services. The man involved in the case was not her father. I will not be wasting my sympathy on this woman.

My dd burnt her hand on a radiator when she was crawling, there was no doubt she needed immediate medical attention, she screamed blue murder all the way to the hospital and I felt terrible. This was a relatively minor burn though and healed well after proper treatment, I can't imagine how anyone could fail to get treatment for the little girl in the shower, she must have been beside herself with the pain. And to let her suffer for at least 10 days when it must have been obvious she wasn't getting any better! As for 'thinking it was nappy rash', words fail me.
So the original injury wasn't deliberate, I can accept that, we have a temperamental shower ourselves, but there can be no excuse for the way the parents neglected the child afterwards.

I still cry when I think about the poor child involved. She must have been in agony. Rest in piece little angel Sad
