I had a laugh too! Bet he will think twice before he shoots his mouth off again!

hunkermunker · 30/12/2005 15:34

Surely this is where someone posts about the rights of the drunk passenger though and the thread kicks off?

Marina · 06/01/2006 11:17

. I wish we could have done the same to the "Oh FGS get a room" lovey dovey, smoochy-woochy Russian teenage couple sitting in front of several frazzled families on our flight back from Edinburgh the other day. They snogged and patted each other across the aisle from takeoff to landing, much to the disgust of those of us who knew where that sort of stuff can get you

Caligula · 06/01/2006 11:23

Couldn't you have said "FGS there's a loo at the back, go and join the mile high club and get it out of your system!" ?

Marina · 06/01/2006 13:20

They did keep looking back towards the bog, but I had trouble cramming in my 6 year old ds for the inevitable emergency wee, so unless they were travelling contortionists (v. possible) they'd have had a job.
I think it was the insulting contrast between their buffed and youthful sleekness and the three rows of parents with chocolate buttons in their hair, pocketsful of dummies/Bionicles/wet-wipes etc. I could feel a mass hate rising from Rows 14-17...

Lucycat · 06/01/2006 13:22

The airline are now sending him a bill for £3000 to cover the cost of having to divert the plane - fantastic!

LadySherlockofLGJ · 06/01/2006 13:25

Marina

LOL at mass hate.............

Drunk passengers are no laughing matter on an aircraft 30,000 feet up believe you me.

I have been unfortunate enough to see at first hand a case of drink rage on a flight. A female passenger a few rows back became abusive physically and verbally to aircrew and fellow passengers when the aircrew refused to serve her any more drink.

The flight thankfully did not divert (it costs airlines thousands of pounds to divert an aircraft so they try not to do this) but the last three hours of the flight was nerve wracking. This woman alternated between crying profusely and screaming. The two passengers sitting next to her were moved to first class and the people immediately in front and behind were moved too for their safety. This lady was handcuffed into her seat and sat next to a member of aircrew for the rest of the flight.

When the flight eventually arrived in Los Angeles the FBI boarded and led her out in handcuffs in front of all the other passengers.

Generally speaking, although this man will be banned from flying Monarch again there is nothing to stop him flying with another airline as such information is not shared.

Monarch are also well within their rights to claim the cost of the divert from this gentleman in question. I sincerely hope they do.

MeerkatsUnite · 06/01/2006 13:37

Well done Monarch!!. Not surprised though that they have claimed against the person involved.

Did say that it costs £1000s for aircraft to divert so am not particularly surprised at the cost.
