Victims of domestic violence are making it up, so the government's legal aid cuts are justified, claims minister

So much for government attempts to win back women with fluffy policies. This is what they really think of us. women make it up, apparently

I heard the debate on Yesterday in Parliament last night. The minister said no, he would not accept medical evidence from GPs treating victims' injuries, because the GP wasn't in the room when it happened - I don't know whether he thinks victims are fantastists who hit themselves or what.

Fucking bastard. So a woman's word isn't as valuable as a man's? Ever has it been thus...

GypsyMoth · 01/11/2011 15:12

We are going backwards..

Peachy · 01/11/2011 15:15

And apparently legal aid to help the disabled fight wrongly denied benefits are cut so they can use the money to help the vulnerable, so it said on news yesterday.

Pray, if the vulnerable are not abused women, the disabled, and that general needy grouping who the fuck are they?

Arses.

Sorry, got interrupted by work...

You are all quite right.

My boss went to see the government a while back to talk about this issue. A colleague who went with her said the government just didn't want to listen - they brushed my boss off and even patronised her. Just flatly refused to acknowledge these proposals would leave anyone in danger. Now we know why - the Tories choose to believe that victims of domestic violence are liars. Just as they appear to believe that disabled people are liars, and every other vulnerable group is full of liars.

They clearly didn't learn anything from the outrage when their very first policy on taking government was to grant anonymity to men accused of rape - as if that was the most pressing issue, never mind the economic crisis...

"Justice Minister Jonathan Djanogly said "objective evidence" was needed when taxpayers' money was being spent."

Hmm I'd like to see their objective evidence for e.g. supporting bankers

AyedaBWells · 02/11/2011 09:18

edam, the coalition wanted to bring in anonymity for men accused of rape, but they were strongly advised against by many and quietly dropped the idea. I agree that it was a very strange priority, although I think Clarke's later remarks shed some light.

Lots of people, especially those who bang on about personal responsibility (whilst having their feet firmly in the public sector gravy), don't really think about DV with any kind of depth. Actually, lots of people don't think about anything in any kind of depth. That doesn't stop them spouting about it which is worrying when they have more power than just the ability to tap out some words on a forum.

AyedaBWells · 02/11/2011 09:25

Do you think Djanogly posts on b3ta or similar responding to a potentially tall tale with "pics or it never happened"?

Peachy · 02/11/2011 09:44

'That doesn't stop them spouting about it which is worrying when they have more power than just the ability to tap out some words on a forum.

Scary isn;t it?

But you are right Edam about them not caring: I have a letter from Maria Miller telling me I have time to plan for cuts to disability (claimed by 2 children) so it is not a problem- as if their autism will vanish! But despite both boys needing specialist schools now neither seem to tick the boxes for PIP: ds1 I hope will work but ds3 working would be laughable if not so worrying.

DS4 is being assessed and we have decided not to even ask for help for him as it's too horrible being a DM target: get the businesses going and lie low so
the vicious people and even family eugenicist we have attracted forget us. When your own BIL feels it is OK to advocate euthanasia for your ds1 who understands fully (just compelted nazis at school, high IQ anyway, not where his issues are) and justifies that becuase of the economy you know it is time to be scared.

JuliaScurr · 02/11/2011 12:25

We'll be told we're irrational and paranoid because the cuts aren't against women or disabled, the cuts are to excessive public spending. Hmm People are very resistant to the idea that politics and economics are 2 sides of 1 coin. There is a thread somewhere called something like 'The tories really hate women, don't they?' on this topic.

Peachy · 02/11/2011 18:59

Of course Julia but I think people just don't want to know.

remember them and us is the easiest way to kid yourself you are immune from the abd side of life: hence the tory rhetoric 9and indeed other sprties too) about supporting the ahrd pressed- a group everyone sees themselves in and and are happy to believe anyone Not Like Me is a bad guy (to use the simplistic yet accurate language of my 3 year old)

JuliaScurr · 02/11/2011 20:00

sadly true
