How horrendous is this

Why would he have gone in there on the off chance there was a 6 yo girl unattended in the bath though? It's freeeeeezing so would a window/door have been open?

This isn't an opportunist crime IMHO.

he must have been watching the house

here is the latest I have read on the incident.

merrySOAPBOXingday · 29/12/2005 12:11

Agree that it sounds like there is more to this story that we don;t yet know.

I saw it on the late news last night and the police spokesman was being extremely cagey. Made me think straight away that there was something dodgy.

Unfortunately lots of horrible scenarios keep running through my head when I think about it

Whatever the facts if the 6 yo was abused, by anyone, it is a horrible crime and I feel so sorry for her

SackAche · 29/12/2005 12:53

I don't think the little girl has made up anything!! I'm wondering if the man KNEW the little girl and her Mum.... so he perhaps KNEW that she always bathed alone and that her Mum would be out of ear-shot for a good 10mins!

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 29/12/2005 13:20

When I saw the thread title without having seen the story, my immediate thought was "it's the father". Which is a horrible assumption to make. I agree that the man must have known the family though.

LIZS · 29/12/2005 13:25

Horrible but agree it doesn't sound opportunist. Poor little girl, she must have been very scared and freezing cold.

They hadn't lived there long, which makes one wonder if they'd moved there to escape an abusive family member. Also, with it being a ground-floor flat it does make it that much more audacious - he must have waited until the mother was busy with her younger child. That poor little girl .

SackAche · 29/12/2005 13:29

wessexgirl -but how would he know when she was busy with the other child?

wessexgirl · 29/12/2005 13:31

This is the question...which is why, as some have suggested, it seems he knew the family pretty well, to the point of even knowing what their evening routine was.

Grumpymama · 29/12/2005 14:02

ugh I feel sick thinking about this story hope they string the f*** up by the balls

Ailsa · 29/12/2005 21:27

I very rarely lock the door when I'm in the house.

My thoughts

  1. Nutters like this don't necessarily think things through enough to think about any obstacles they might come across. They decide that they want to do something and just do it, never thinking that they'll get caught out.

  2. I don't think the little girl has made it up.

  3. I don't think he is known to the family.

  4. Of course it doesn't make sense - the bloke's a nutter!

this isnt that far from where we live...

Jeepers

Bozza · 29/12/2005 21:41

There is a difference between having a door open and having a door unlocked (assuming it is not a yale lock). And whether the door is locked or unlocked makes no difference to the temperature in the house.

Well there is alone and alone...I would certainly have left a 6-yr-old in the bath (in our bathroom, which happens to be upstairs) while I buggered off to do various domestic things...

The Man in Gloves was seen lurking in the vicinity; the house in question had a downstairs bathroom, off the kitchen; our (upstairs) bathroom has no curtains/blinds and I bet theirs didn't either; although it's rare there really are opportunistic men like that...I don't understand why so many people are being so critical here

i find it very odd that someone would have a downstairs bathroom without curtains/blinds etc.

do they want people to look at them starkers?

myrrhthamoo · 29/12/2005 22:42

Haven't read whole thread but I saw this on the news tonight - sounds utterly bizarre to me and one of those "more will come out" stories. I'm glad the little girl was found safe and unharmed though.

Janh · 29/12/2005 22:43

no, they will have had a gate on the backyard, and it probably never occurred to them that anyone would have lurked and looked.

I think you need to live in this kind of house in a "safe" neighbourhood to understand how this could happen. Please don't make assumptions based on where you live.
