That they allow children under 16 to use the sunbeds is bad enough but I'm gobsmacked that they can get away with offering children's parties.

sevensuzyswongsaswimming · 14/12/2005 14:29

not really
have you seen what part of the country the story comes from?

BunnyHem · 14/12/2005 14:29

i heard this on the radio and the report also claimed mothers were taking babies into booths with them!!!!!!! bloody nuts if you ask me!

saadia · 14/12/2005 14:33

I can't believe that the 14 year old's mother wasn't aware of what she was doing. And are sunbeds really that cheap - a pound a time???

saadia · 14/12/2005 14:43

Of course partypooka, she must have noticed that her daughter was permanently tanned.

Is someone suggesting that all people from Merseyside are likely to be the ones using sunbeds?

You can probabably guess where I come from

sevensuzyswongsaswimming · 14/12/2005 14:57

yes me

well not all people, but I remember feeling very frumpy and dowdy when a friend's Scouse step daughter at 15 told me how many of her friends go to the beauty salon and how how often.

I've been twice and I 'm a fright

PickasillyChristmasName · 14/12/2005 15:10

I've never been to a beauty salon....well I have had my eyebrows waxed but that's as far as it goes

sevensuzyswongsaswimming · 14/12/2005 15:11

You ain't from Kirby then are you

PickasillyChristmasName · 14/12/2005 15:20

That's true, this was in Knowsley wasn't it? My family live a bit further north (almost Lancashire, but not quite)

OComeOliveFaithfOil · 14/12/2005 15:23

Her hair is ironed, deffo a scouser.

MelissasSecretSanta · 14/12/2005 19:09

I'm sorry, but how can a mother NOT notice her child is that colour? It is not natural! Quite honestly she looks a fright!

Caligyulea · 15/12/2005 13:36

Sorry am I the only one to think that tans like that look ... um... common?

Heh heh heh

littlemissbossy · 15/12/2005 13:39

I know someone who is a Dermatology Consultant - and she said that sun beds should be illegal. Who in their right mind would allow a child to use one?

LUCYlastiKATEdchristmastocking · 15/12/2005 13:40

can i just point out that even though this particular story originates from merseyside, i doubt very much if this only happens there alone. this will be going on in beauty salons all over the country.

doormat · 15/12/2005 13:49

I use a few sun tan salons in merseyside
and I have never once seen a child go in a booth with their parent. The kids have to be either minded by someone or you just do not go in.

Also you have to sign a form before you use the sunbeds/showers etc to say you are over 16.
If these kids are under 16 they are commiting fraud.
but to be fair to the shops, some kids do look over 16 when they are not.
Maybe some sort of ID should be required like provisional, passport etc to prove you are over 16.
Also agree that this musnt be confined to merseyside but other areas too.
Merseyside has been targeted because we are such a vain lot
