This man is a hero; an inspiration. It is largely down to his words and dignified behaviour that Brum didn't explode last night.

As a nation we should mourn with him and be proud of him.

Sassy, I agree. He is an inspiration.

AuntieMonica · 11/08/2011 09:37

they keep showing different parts of his speech on the news, the more i see the more i respect this man.

'step forward all those who want to lose their sons' Sad

saddest thing i've heard in a long time - much respect to you, Mr Jahan.

You are a shining light, even in your grief.

I am reviving this thread as a tiny attempt to counterbalance all the threads were people with opinions from both sides of the argument are frothing from the mouth.

Mr Jahan is one example of somebody who not only has suffered loss of the worst possible kind in these riots, but also stands for all the other people from the same communities the rioters came from who did NOT destroy/assault/steal.

The silent majority is suffering and we need more people like him who stand up and are counted: "Calm down and go home."

bumping because I agree with Pacific.

What a brave man, I don't think I rcould remain as dignified as him in such tragic circumstances.
My thoughts are with the families of those who died. May justice be done and they rest in peace.

Smile

I have not posted on any of the 'castrate the effing bastards' vs 'fascist police state started it all' threads and I am getting fed up with all the wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth.

Not that tough questions don't need to be asked (and answered), but if more people had the inner strength, the back bone and the attitude that people like Mr Jahan have, things would not have got that far out of hand.

Respect to him and anybody else who remains moderate, but is not afraid to lead their communities by their actions and example.

The Brother of the other lads was an inspiration too.

I don't know how they were feeling but dignified was how they acted.
