Well done to everyone going, and I think it would be really positive to take children along. I would if I was near a city, but the nearest one is Plymouth i.e. about 80 miles! Times like these I feel very glad I live in the sticks.

Marlinspike · 09/08/2011 12:23

This is fantastic; real community spirit in action!

well done all you cleaner-uppers - I hope this is picked up on the news here and abroad; it's a brilliant advert for the resilience of our communities!

Nothing to clear up in Yorkshire yet; hoping it stays that way, and that things calm down tonight....can't we just "unplug" twitter /facebook and BBM for the night to stop the scrotes communicating?

Me too, I particularly want to send some money or basic things to those who have lost their homes.
It's really heartening seeing people coming together to clean up.

SmethwickBelle · 09/08/2011 13:57

There is a picture here of me, husband and kids at The Bullring earlier:

Empusa · 09/08/2011 13:57

Might be going into London, depending health, if we do we'll go help.

Clockface · 09/08/2011 13:59

Me too - I don't live near any of the areas but would like to do something. Is it worth starting a MN collection of money for those who've lost businesses / possessions / have been burnt out of their homes?

Fillybuster · 09/08/2011 14:35

I've just delivered 4 bags of kids clothes and toys to Haringey Council who are organising a collection of bedding, toys, clothes, towels etc for families who've been forced out of their homes around Tottenham (in worse cases have had their homes destroyed by fire).

Felt like all I could do, with all 3 dcs at home...

crazynanna · 09/08/2011 14:38

Fillybuster Can I ask which office in Haringay is collecting, and what they are needing. Thanks Smile
I live in N4,so can sort some stuff out and take it down.

vanimal · 09/08/2011 14:44

Well done SmethwickBelle. Am covering 2 peoples work at the moment, so could not get time off to do this.

Fab that you went, even with 2 young children.

LDNmummy · 09/08/2011 15:08

I was thinking about this today but am in the middle of home renovations before my LO arrives in a few weeks.

I do know people who are getting involved and I think it is a wonderful idea to bring people back together after all this.

Fillybuster · 09/08/2011 15:42

ooh, not sure which office - i guess you could call the council to ask - my friend was on his way so I dropped the bags off at his in N12 in the end. i was told they need clothes, towels, bedding and toys. hope that helps :)

crazynanna · 09/08/2011 15:44

Thank you FillyBuster Smile. Will look online, and ds will drop me down,if we can get through the road closures.

horationelson · 09/08/2011 15:49

i don't live anywhere near these areas but if anyone wants to get away from the troubles for a few days I have a spare room in Dorset from next week.

hagridthehamster · 09/08/2011 15:49

Not sure if this has been posted already hope

LeoTheLateBloomer · 09/08/2011 15:51

Well done everyone who is able to get involved. South Devon feels further away than ever from all the big cities.

Sending prayers and happy thoughts to everyone involved Smile

Fillybuster · 09/08/2011 15:53

Must admit that I'm slightly in hiding in my immediate home neighbourhood with the 3 dcs and on countdown to our escape to South Devon at the weekend Leothelatebloomer :) Quiet would be good right now...

horationelson · 09/08/2011 15:55

hagridthehamster that is really moving.

LaWeasel · 09/08/2011 18:19

Well done to everyone who helped today!

If anyone hears of a official collection for those affected please let us know.

LaWeasel · 09/08/2011 18:28

write up re Riotcleanup

goingbacktowork · 09/08/2011 18:33

maybe MNHQ couldk start a thread listing all the places we could go to help - collections of clotes etc. Otherwise it will all get lost in long threads.

horationelson · 09/08/2011 18:53

How about a whipround for the looters.

We can ship them off to siberia or even the moon.

exoticfruits · 09/08/2011 18:56

I think that it is great that people are getting together and doing something-I wish that I lived near enough to be practical help.

ilovejondanby · 09/08/2011 19:33

well done to all you that are helping! I hope the rest of the world are watching and realise that the majority of us are decent people! To everyone in the areas affected stay safe x

LeoTheLateBloomer · 09/08/2011 19:43

Have a nice holiday Filly Smile

Where are you staying?
