\link{http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/phone-hacking/8628497/Former-News-of-the-World-journalists-silenced-on-Twitter.html\Telegraph article on them being "silenced"} Shock

noddyholder · 10/07/2011 11:36

In order to have a regulated/silenced press we need to have a whiter that white govt We are heading into chicken and egg territory now.

BornSicky · 10/07/2011 11:36

ponders see here...

exnotwjourno twitter

sayanything · 10/07/2011 11:36

It's all very weird Ponders. Supposedly exNOTWjourno was set to publish damning information at 3pm today... Someone from the Telegraph seems to be on it. Hmm.

sayanything · 10/07/2011 11:37

x-posts with lots of people!

Ponders · 10/07/2011 11:52

I keep being unfollowed from ExNOTWJourno - have clicked Follow several times but it changes back each time & there are no new tweets...

what is going on???

ClaireDeLoon · 10/07/2011 11:59

I was following ExNOTWJourno and they have stopped me following them. I have their old tweets on my timeline and they were going to publish a PDF of info on a website then link to it, that was planned for yesterday but then they said they were delaying until today after legal advice. The last tweet I have from them is late yesterday:

This is what NI do.They crush people, convinced they've Govt and Law on their side. They certainly have influence. They even make twitter scary

That said no idea if they really are who they say they are of course.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 10/07/2011 12:00

I have dealt with rougher than RB terrible

I live in East London Grin

I have pondered if any of my family have been hacked. My niece is well known and they have been trying to get dirt on her for ages. We have been doorstepped a couple of times but I cant remember who by because I just told them to fuck off.

Hacking my voicemails would only furnish them with information about what my OH wants me to get him from the shops and thats always the same - probiotics, cereal and apples.

LadyBeagleEyes · 10/07/2011 12:02

This thread has now got 1758 posts, and it's still fascinating isn't it?
Every time I come back on there's new revelations, there's so much more to the whole story and I'm addicted.

Just been looking at Paul McM on Twitter - I especially like
"@BenQuinn75 Hey, Ben! BEN! Don't I merit a mention in your Guardian blog updates this morning? I love The Guardian, me. Want to work for you"

Guardian readers (me) would rise up like a tsunami of rage and fury. Would be quite entertaining :o

Ponders · 10/07/2011 12:09

\link{http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/notw/news/402737/The-News-of-the-World-was-the-subject-of-some-ferocious-attacks.html\this is unbelievable}

editorial from final edition of NotW:

'No inquiries, No charges, No evidence'

'Neither the police, nor our own internal investigations, has found any evidence to support allegations that News of the World journalists have accessed voicemails of any individuals.
Nor instructed private investigators or other third parties to access voicemails of any individual.
Nor found that there was any systemic corporate illegality by any executive to suppress evidence to the contrary.
If the police, or ourselves, had uncovered such evidence, charges would have been brought. '

'if the Guardian has any fresh evidence to support their claims against us, we invite them to pass it on to the police without delay.
Yesterday, in their editorial column, they proclaimed: "Decent journalism has never been more necessary . . . "
We couldn't agree more. It's time they practised what they preach. '

Hassled · 10/07/2011 12:09

And from the Guardian:
Breaking: Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt is to take legal advice on the potential implications of a successful Labour parliamentary motion calling for the suspension of the deal allowing Rupert Murdoch's takeover of BSkyB.

The Guardian understands that Hunt will seek the advice first thing tomorrow morning. Labour could reveal the details of the motion as soon as tomorrow and one senior source said that it would be written to ensure "as much cross-party support as possible".

Ponders · 10/07/2011 12:10

(conveniently ignoring the fact that the police were being bribed all the time & had no interest in killing the goose)

they really do think the Great British Public is Thick, don't they?

NormanTebbit · 10/07/2011 12:16

Hurrah! a proper political opposition at last! (or am I being naive?)

muminlondon · 10/07/2011 12:16

Who was it said people would believe a big lie sooner than a small one?

ClaireDeLoon · 10/07/2011 12:20

I'm just Shock at that NOTW editorial. The breathtaking arrogance and bending of the truth. The police didn't press charges because you had them and the politicians in your pocket.

MollieO · 10/07/2011 12:20

Yates has admitted that he spent less than a day looking at the evidence - 11,000 documents - in 2009 so what the NOTW said then in their editorial was actually correct. However if it hadn't been for the Guardian keeping on digging we wouldn't be where we are now. I feel sorry for most of the current NOTW journalists and editors, none of whom were there when the hacking was at its height.

I also think there are plenty of other tabloids whose suspect practices will come out at the inquiry.

Terribletriplets · 10/07/2011 12:20

It's BROOKS, not Wade. And it was not just the Tories;

MollieO · 10/07/2011 12:22

Wade is RB maiden name and the name she used when she was editor of NOTW. Then she became Kemp and then Brooks.

Terribletriplets · 10/07/2011 12:40

RB chose not to take the name of her first husband. She chose to take the name of her 'Old Etonian and member of the racing crowd''s second husband. Charlie Brooks was useful to get her into Cameron's circle.

Ponders · 10/07/2011 12:54

we know it wasn't just the Tories! Blair was just as bad (& Brown to an extent)

RB never took the name Kemp, Mollie - have never heard why she decided she would take Brooks

carocaro · 10/07/2011 12:56

Plus all the guff on TV eg: end of an era/tradition/institution and how sad all the staff are to be out of job.

Boo fucking hoo, welcome to the real world of redundancy that many of us have put up with. I do not give a teeny tiny toss. Go sign on.

There will be some long drawn out review/investigation which we the muppet tax payers will have to foot, to come to the conclusion they were mostly cheating, lying scum who thought they could do what they liked how they liked whilst sitting on large piles of cash and laughing. Does not take a genius to work that one out.

Cameron needs to get some balls and some backbone and put in laws to monitor the press more closely instead of shitting his pants in case one of the papers won't support him or G'ovt policy.

Him and Clegg are piss poor weaklings.

carocaro · 10/07/2011 12:57

And FFS like that woman's surname is relevant how???!?!?!?!?!?
