I know there are threads flying about all over the place re; the strike, but this is purely to register support - it would be great if we could keep it going until midnight on Thursday ( 30th June )

you don't have to say anything - just smile, like this Smile

Work to rule, slowdown, strike. It all adds up to the same thing. Disrupted education. Whatever the method, it meant kids sitting in classrooms doing fuck all.

thebestisyettocome · 30/06/2011 20:06

This is pretty much what I remember

flippinada · 30/06/2011 20:09

That's the whole point of a strike thebest.

To cause disruption and inconvenience so that people take notice.

No one wants to go on strike. If you go on strike you lose money. People only strike as a last resort when then feel they are not being listened to.

And I also take exception to your comments that people are doing what they are ' told' to by the union.

Unions are democratic organisations that ballot their members on issues like strike action. If members did not support strike action they would vote no.

mummasita · 30/06/2011 20:11

The teachers have my support, hope they get what they want!!

Kathsmum · 30/06/2011 20:16

Thanks from another striking teacher. A bit disappointed by the vote, some teachers not behind it. ( Bet they'll take the money etc)

Footpad · 30/06/2011 20:19

Just read the thing about MPs pensions and salaries - Shock £65,000 salary? Plus expenses to pay spouse for answering the phone and the rest!?!

Plus a pay off when voted out - and all with no specific qualifications or experience except being a party hack.

Vive la revolution indeed.

Lilithmoon · 30/06/2011 20:26

:)

flippinada · 30/06/2011 20:27

Well exactly footpad - but people are getting all aerated about the selfish lazy teachers and public sector workers.

This is information is out there and it seems people really aren't bothered.
Perhaps they think MPs deserve it for all their stirling hard work?

Solidarity · 30/06/2011 20:27

Thebest; - I know I can't stop you posting on this thread, but it was started it to give teachers, (and other PSW ) support and encouragement. I think with over 400 posts I've achieved my aim ( thank you to everyone who's posted )

The overwhelming message here is one of support - one or two negative posts will do nothing to dampen that.

Here's to our teachers Wine - Smile

Of course I mean sterling. Stirling is a place in Scotland :)

Whizpuff · 30/06/2011 20:31

flippinada · 30/06/2011 20:34

You're absolutely right Solidarity.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the level of support on here.

thebestisyettocome · 30/06/2011 20:44

I'm just responding to the critisism of my posts Solidarity.

Twowillbefine · 30/06/2011 20:45

Total :) support for all teachers and public sector workers from a PCS member who can't strike today as on unpaid maternity leave but would definitely be out otherwise.

newportstateofmind · 30/06/2011 20:46

Thanks for starting this thread Solidarity....it's nice to know that there are people who support the strike when most of the media coverage seems to have been negative.

Haribojoe · 30/06/2011 20:47

Grin vive la revoution!

LadySharrow · 30/06/2011 21:18

Thankyou to everyone who took the time to post. It was a very hard decision to strike, and to find so many parents expressing their support has been an overwhelming virtual experience!

cinnamontoast · 30/06/2011 21:25

Woah, thebestisyettocome, I just want to go back a few pages. Billy Bragg may well live in West Dorset but that doesn't mean he has sold out and I hardly see why he should be expected to stay in a council house in Barking for the rest of his life - aren't we meant to be proud of social mobility? At the last election, he fought the BNP in Barking for weeks and got a result to be proud of: a Labour MP, and all the BNP members were kicked off the council. He is still as politically active as ever, and is totally inspirational.

Sorry, Solidarity, I don't mean to take this thread away from the strike (although others seem to want to). I totally support what public sector workers are doing and have explained to my children that the right to withhold your labour is a fundamental human right - without it, we are little better than slaves. The one good thing that has come out of this shitty little coalition is the resurgence of solidarity and activism - only this time it spans all ages and all classes, which gives me cautious hope for the future.

A final Smile

I'm a working parent not a teacher. DS and I were on the march in London today - full solidarity and support with all the striking teachers.

mumsknowsbestok · 30/06/2011 21:40

they ve got my support too although i doubt it will make any difference

Gillg57 · 30/06/2011 21:41

Definitely support. I wish Mumsnet would not make sweeping statements on our behalf.

mumsknowsbestok · 30/06/2011 21:44

i agree
