I know there are threads flying about all over the place re; the strike, but this is purely to register support - it would be great if we could keep it going until midnight on Thursday ( 30th June )

you don't have to say anything - just smile, like this Smile

I'd like to see David Cameron on his Zimmer frame dealig with unruly classes in his late sixties. Teaching isn't the sort of profession where you can hide behind your desk if you're feeling unwell. Teachers need to be alert, active and on the ball. You could work til later in other professions , but not teaching.
Also, a teacher working until later is depriving a younger, newly qualified teacher of a job. There are already enough of those looking for work.

sydneysuze · 30/06/2011 12:56

Got my support - teaching needs to be valued.

RuralLass · 30/06/2011 12:58

Right back atcha. Negociations, my bottie!! How can anyone negociate without the basic underlying info. And teachers have already agreed to make some pretty major concessions re. pension rights .... why is it 'reasonable' or 'fair' to expect them to make more? Put your money where your mouth is, Cam-Cams, and make equivalent changes to MPs' pensions FIRST!!

i just by and large support striking, regardless. no-one does it lightly.

stillenacht · 30/06/2011 13:19

Full support from me Smile I am a teacher but am not on strike (wrong union). However my son's special school teacher is on strike so I am at home with him - fortunately been given compassionate leave. I am a 'hard working parent' and a 'tax payer' - all the meeja keep going on about is how the strike will affect these people. To be one of them Dave et al, you don't have to work in the private sector. Very proud of my colleagues today.

Solidarity · 30/06/2011 13:22

You'll never see our 3 main parties elect a new leader who's over 60 - in fact I'd be surprised if they went over 50. They want a younger fresher feel to politics - they don't want someone who looks old and knackered. But it's fine for our kids.

Remember that Lib-dems?

I read a few posts on a netmums thread and the vast majority were supporting the strike. I felt quite heartened.

Grin Non striking teacher (NASUWT) in full support of colleagues out today.

Just back from the demo in a certain northern city. Public applauding us as we walked along. Nice to hear.

The really interesting news now is the BMA's vote of 87% in favour of industrial action by doctors if the same changes are made to their pensions. Now that will really look bad for the government. I would support such action just as I have today.

KatharineClifton · 30/06/2011 14:12

Solidarity with everyone striking today. When it gets to the point that the only thing you can do is withdraw your labour then things are really desperate

duffeldaisy · 30/06/2011 14:13

They have my wholehearted support. :)

WhenCanISleep · 30/06/2011 14:14

Non-striking teacher (different union): full support - plus I've got loads done in my empty classroom!!!

BreconBeBuggered · 30/06/2011 14:19

Wholeheartedly support any striking teachers. I utterly loathe the divide-and-conquer approach of setting one section of the workforce against another. Nobody loses a day's pay wothout good cause.

NanaNina · 30/06/2011 14:25

100% SUPPORT here too but also for all ps workers. My god if the BMA came out that would wipe the smirk from Cameron and Osborne's nasty faces. I typed faeces at first - (typo) but maybe a Freudian slip!

ArfurBrain · 30/06/2011 14:27
