Anyone else see this on the news?

US presidents car stopped by a ridge on the road, made DH and I laugh!

It was the sound of whatever it was crunching on the hump out of the drive that made me wince - sounded expensive!

BarbarianMum · 24/05/2011 16:58

Apparently the car was nicknamed 'the beast' because it's unstoppable Grin

I laughed when I saw the article about the president bringing his own water.

"Buckingham Palace?s water may be fit for a queen ? but it has failed the White House test.
Mr Obama?s staff told the Queen?s household they could not risk him trying London tap water or even the palace?s own bottled mineral water.
When one royal aide asked why, the reply was that ?they didn?t want to risk a change in water in case it gave Mr President a stomach upset?."

Judging by how sprightly the Queen and Prince Philip are, I'd be glugging down as much Buckingham Palace water as I could get. There must be something in it. Grin

That's just ridiculous about the water. Surely things were cooked in that same water. I imagine he's eaten food since he's been here, so what's the big deal?

God, I hate this type of ridiculous attitude. Hmm

The American Embassy in Dublin is built like a fortress. Very funny to see the car impaled on the security bump like that.

I think the way you do about the ridiculousness of the attitude, Triggles. You go to all the expense and trouble of a trip abroad to underline the friendly relations you have with allies and instead what a lot of people notice is the fact that you refuse to drink the water that is perfectly fine for everyone else and that there is a security bump the size of a hillock at the perimeter of your embassy.

Re: the water thing, it has to be the same for everywhere, of course. No need to take it personally! :) It's not about thinking that what's good enough for the British Queen isn't good enough for the US President, it's about being able to say to the next place he visits where the water might be a bit dodgy, "this is nothing personal; he didn't even drink the water in Buckingham Palace."

Triggles · 25/05/2011 17:33

Nope. I'm American, so it's not like I'm taking it personally. LOL I think it's ridiculous.

cloudydays · 25/05/2011 17:35

I don't know what attitude you're referring to, anyway - is it the view that the President is a high-profile target for several different extremist groups - at home and abroad - and he therefore requires a very high and erring-on-the-side-of-caution level of protection?

Sadly, there's nothing ridiculous about that.

Triggles · 25/05/2011 20:10

Oh please. If the water at the palace is safe for the queen to drink, it's safe for the Pres to drink. Tummy trouble? Nonsense. It's not a third world water supply for goodness sake. It's just pompous really. But then... considering the source, can't say I'm surprised.
