More volcanic ash from Iceland

Reuters article here.

It's forced the closure of some/all of Iceland's airspace, and some re-routing of lonhaul flights, but isn't predicted to cause a Europe-wide shut down.

But if any of you are travelling this week, it might be worth keeping an eye out for updates.

A thread has now been started in Weather as well - worth seeing what OYBBK has to say about wind etc.

SKY news is running a breaking news suggesting that it might spread further towards Europe than initial predictions, but still no reason to expect a major shut down like last year's.

SKY link: quoting an OU official who says it might track Scottish airspace by Tuesday. But apparently it's heavier, grittier ash which won't stay in the atmosphere so long.

We are supposed to by flying out to Tenerife on Thursday.

Holiday was ruined last year because of ash.

have booked flights and hotel separately...

Am panicking

Oh here we go again. DC1 and 2 delayed by 9 days by it last April, delayed 3 days by sodding snow at Christmas and DC2 due to fly out here on Saturday. Am wondering about whether to try to get her an earlier flight before it heads south Sad Think I might be jinxed

Can anyone tell me did travel insurance cover the ash last year?
I have checked my policy and it says under exclusions adverse weather conditions so does that mean they wont refund?

meditrina · 23/05/2011 10:20

mrshess: it may depend on the terms of your policy, but this Telegraph article from when it all happened last year gives an outline of what rights passengers had then, and despite airlines hoping for changes, I don't think any have yet been made so I think those aspects stay the same (for now, at least, and of course subject to a better informed MNetter coming along).
