Something is very wrong here. Labour's nanny state laws have to be repealed, and fast.

There will be more to the story than simply a song. Context is everything.

This is absolute nonsense, the sooner the government repeals 'hate crimes' the better!

The world has gone mad....

the singer was interviewed by victoria derbishire this morning, he belives but is not confirmed by police yet as he, himself had not given his statement but The nature of the complaint is that he began singing the song because he was chinnese and sang it only because he walked past.

The singer disputes this and is certain cctv will confirm this and shouw the other man acting in a thretaning manner.

A SINGER arrested over racism allegations after a performance of the disco anthem Kung Fu Fighting will not be charged.
Police confirmed Simon Ledger, who was arrested at the weekend, answered street bail yesterday (Wednesday) but will not be charged due to lack of evidence to suggest a criminal offence had been committed.

From Todays local rag.

I read afterwards that he'd posted on Facebook something along the lines of "..there's something wong - sorry, wrong..." which is deliberately racist and a very Jim Davidson type of "joke". I'm fairly sure he wasn't innocently singing a song with no offence intended

Longtalljosie · 07/05/2011 09:06

Sorry, which law are you talking about? The Racial Offences (Karaoke) Act 2006?

LFN, I know you hate the Labour Party but people in all professions over-react and make poor decisions, including the police. The fact he wasn't charged means it sorted itself out. The laws against racial harassment are to make it illegal to yell racial insults at your neighbours, which I think is a pretty good thing, don't you?

vmcd28 · 07/05/2011 12:10

Agreed. And as I said, I think - like with virtually every story in the papers - that there was a lot more to it than this.

maggiethecat · 07/05/2011 12:53

Not sure where the offence is. I am of part Chinese origin and I wonder if I would have felt harassed by this. The Chinese man may have had attention drawn to him by the song choice but was this mocking or derisory? I really don't know....
