New "breastfeeding" doll...

Article Here

I think the only weird thing is that they think you need a special "bib"... DD manages to BF her dolls and teddies just fine without (and we didn't have to fork out $99 either!

What does the great MN jury think? Educational or Inappropriate ?

Haven't these been made before? They seem familiar. I think normal dolls are better but I wouldnt say its innapropriate.

HerBeX · 30/03/2011 16:14

OMG at some of those loony comments.

I think it's fine.

I remember seeing a Spanish film years ago set in the thirties with a kid in it holding her doll to her breast. It struck me, the cultural difference - years ago, all kids must have done that with dolls, it was what they saw women do to feed babies.

ViolaTricolor · 30/03/2011 16:14

I'm just watching this story on the US news. They got a doc in who said 'the only way this could do harm to a kid would be if you beat the kid over the head with the doll'.

wannaBe · 30/03/2011 16:16

I think it's inappropriate.

Why anyone would buy this for their child is beyond me.

wannaBe · 30/03/2011 16:17

and fwiw I don't think it's harmful I just think there's no need.

I didn't like the bib. X marks the spot. Hmm My dd breastfeeds her dolly somewhere just above her tummy. Dolly seems quite happy...

LawrieMarlow · 30/03/2011 17:10

Don't see the point of a bib. Both DS and DD have breastfed their dolls or teddy bears perfectly well without the need of a special bib. But nothing wrong with it. And nothing wrong with children having bottles for their dolls/toy animals either.

prettybird · 30/03/2011 17:14

See nothing wrong with it per se, even if I wouldn't have spent the money on it myself.

Interesting that the Daily Mail is no longer accepting comments on the article HmmHmm

aliceliddell · 30/03/2011 17:45

The idea it's inappropriate for girls 'prepuberty' is odd. Surely that applies to baby dolls in general? How about prepuberty boys? (Oh shit, I've gone too far again)

prettybird · 30/03/2011 17:59

Good point.

Children use their imaginations , relating to what they are seeing around them. Just because a 5 year old pretends to be "Mummy" doesn't mean that she is planning on having sex straight away Hmm

In the same, a child playing "vroom, vroom" is not about to jump into a car and drive it away Grin

BTW I am still scarred because my mum and dad refused to buy me an expensive Tiny Tears forty years ago! Wink

i think its great. whether we like it or not, there are a huge amount of women growing up thinking that bfing is disgusting and weird. bottlefeeding is still seen as the norm, and I think its a great way to try to turn that around in future generations!
