Who is she?????

moondog · 25/10/2005 21:04

Yes.What a woman.
Visited the Civil Rights museum in Memphis (actually was the Lorraine Motel where MLK was shot) and there was a great section devoted to her.

Very moving.

The black woman who refused to stand on a segregated bus. A great hero.

Crikey - I didn't realise she was still alive.

I was looking at schools in Berkeley, California (with a view to a move) the other day and was delighted when I realised my children might possibly go to Rosa Parks Elementary.

It's staggering to think that such a system could ever exist, and as recently as forty years ago. What a disgusting and bizarre 'norm' she so bravely stood up against.

I can't get my head around it.

She is one of my heroines. She epitomises how one individual can make a positive change to a society without resorting to violence. I hope that one day the USA will honour her as a National Heroine. I think it was Jesse Jackson who said "She sat down so that we could stand up".

RIP Rosa.

Speaking at Bolling air force base here, Bush said the United States "honours the memory of one of the most inspiring women of the 20th century, Rosa Parks."

Her show of defiance was an act of personal courage that moved millions, including a young preacher named Martin Luther King," Bush recalled.

"Rosa Parks's example helped touch off the civil rights movement and transformed America for the better.

She will always have a special place in American history, and our nation thinks of Rosa Parks and her loved ones today," Bush said.

Doesn't your Google work ???
