No, no and ... unless there's some very good medical reason for it and they've been prescribed by a doctor.... no. :) There are few drugs that will significantly speed up weight-loss and the ones that are effective have to be taken with medical supervision and usually also involve a change in dietary habits and increasing exercise levels. OTC/internet 'metabolism boosting' pills are just stimulants that raise the heart-rate and lead to a wired feeling. If you have certain medical conditions, they can be dangerous. The ones sold as 'colon cleansers' are usually just powerful laxatives... and if you're not constipated you can seriously mess up your digestion by doing that. The ones limiting fat absorption are OK but all they're doing is making sure you eat a low-fat diet - with yukky consequences if you accidentally scoff down a pizza.

Finally... if, after all that, you lose weight by taking pills, then what? Keep taking them for the rest of your life? Eat better, eat less, exercise more.... boring but effective.

No ta.

Unless you have a medical problem, just eat fewer calories and move more.

I don't as I'm a normal weight, but I probably would if I was fat and wanted to lose weight because I love my quick fixes. That would make me a massive hypocrite as I have serious doubts about them- mainly in terms of the fact that they probably don't help re-educate you into what a healthy diet looks like.

I live in Asia where you can just wander into the Chemist and buy them (Orlistat, Xenicol) with no prescription/supervision which I don't think is a very good idea.

LadyFannyofBumStreet · 07/03/2011 22:24

No I wouldn't.

Besides, they don't work; hence the reason most people, and particularly, celebrities use starvation, tapeworms, nicotine, insulin, cocaine, heroin, meth, gastric bands, or good old liposuction go to the gym or employ personal trainers in order to lose weight.

cornsilkee · 07/03/2011 22:25

no

Meglet · 07/03/2011 22:27

No. The idea is so alien to me as I prefer (and actually like) exercise. And I like my food, would rather burn it off during a run than with a tablet.

sue52 · 08/03/2011 22:06

No, eat less and exercise more.

happiestblonde · 15/03/2011 22:29

I do.

I also eat v healthily and gym 5 times a week.

Every little helps...

*They do work.

But yes, eat less and exercise more.
