I hope the poor boy recovers soon :(

Not vindictive, pixie. I have no animus towards anyone on this thread, whoever they might be. Just very angry about what happened to this poor boy and his mother.

And also shocked that some people apparently think that a teacher doesn't owe a duty to take reasonable care for the safety of her pupils (as a matter of law, she does; the fact that teachers are covered by education authority employers' liability policies and aren't required to take out professional indemnity policies in their own names doesn't change this) and that someone would seriously suggest that a parent should have taught a 7 year old which chocolates in a particular box were nut-free.

I am very lucky. My son's school is fantastic and I feel that he is safe there. What happened to him had nothing to do with school. But from what I've read here, including other threads where people have awful stories of how thick some schools can be about allergies, many other mothers aren't so lucky. That's disgraceful.

My DS went on a school trip a few months ago, dcs are split into groups and although in the same vacinity some are with teachers, some TAS and some volunteers. My sons 'leader' refused him a biscuit because he has allergies (let him eat his choc cake bar from lunch box Hmm). Teacher and TA there he was just sat with her iyswim.

DS was upset but I told him she was very sensible as if he was allergic he could have become very ill. fwiw DS allergies don't seem to be food (except tomato) but I was pleased this person put my sons health first. AND I rang to school to say thanks - they get so much shit they need to hear when they get it right.

Children should know what they can and can't have. I believe it was a catalogue of errors in this case not just 1 person to blame. Sad
