Legal aid cuts in England and Wales will make it impossible for individuals to sue drug companies

Just heard this on Radio 4, File on Four.
www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006th08

Does this mean that people won't be able to sue the private health care providers who are going to take over the functions of the NHS, if they make a mistake?

It gets better and better. Sad

I understand that only a percentage of cases get Legal Aid under the present system, but what I heard was that if you wanted to sue as an individual, you have to prove that you could pay the costs if you lose the case, and since these costs are often in the millions, it will be impossible for individuals (who are not insured) to do this.

So how did the litigants who got big compensation get round this, or did they get Legal Aid?

Isn't the whole purpose of Legal Aid to make sure that justice is accessible to all?

If they cut it, aren't they saying that it doesn't matter that justice can't be accessed by poor people?
