Lead story on ITV and lots of discussion!

Sonnet · 20/01/2011 06:53

I just saw it too.....
The power of mumsnet just gets stronger.

I really hope this gets Riven and her family the help deserve.

onimolap · 20/01/2011 07:04

Not on the BBC website yet - I looked for a link.

Cameron reported as very concerned at the Council's failure to provide, and to be writing to Riven.

CaveMum · 20/01/2011 07:06

Just seen it, the power of Mumsnet eh?! Grin

[tugs forelock and backs away bowing]

Wink
PositiveAttitude · 20/01/2011 07:07

On sky news, too.

Madsometimes · 20/01/2011 07:32

On R4 Today program.

chicaguapa · 20/01/2011 07:32

And on radio 2 news. DC quoted that he's concerned for Riven, but stressed that it's a local issue.

AlistairSim · 20/01/2011 07:33

Let's hope it's not just going to be lots of talk about how things must change and lessons must be learnt.

Xenia · 20/01/2011 07:48

P3 of the Times and a lovely photograph/

"No choice other than to put her into full time care"

Those of us with children who aren't disabled are so lucky. It must be very difficult.

I was waking up and thought I was dreaming it, but no, it really was on the radio.
Well done all and I hope that Riven and others in her situation get this sorted out completely and not just given empty promises.

Hopelesslydisorganised · 20/01/2011 07:57

Excellent - may it shame those who have the power to make changes but don't.

shinyshoes · 20/01/2011 07:58

it was on DayBreak too.

Well done Mumsnet. Hopefully Riven, and others in her situation, get the help they need Smile

Greythorne · 20/01/2011 08:03

Just read the sympathetic piece in the Guardian. Saw the pic of Riven's Dd....felt strange, seeing her after reading so much of her life. She looks like such a poppet.

Xenia · 20/01/2011 08:04

They are not simple issues. There is infinite demand for state resources in millions of cases and areas and Governments need the wisdom of Solomon to divide up an increasingly smaller pot. If children are taken into care it costs more so on an individual basis there should be no doubt about the better decision where the parent wants the child at home (and indeed in the less popular but just as awful cases of the elderly with dementia with a spouse changing their nappies and controlling their violence at home after 40 years together who just wants respite but doesn't want them in a home) of course it's cheaper/better to provide the support but on a more generalised basis it's harder to filter that through.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 20/01/2011 08:06

Lead item on BBC TV news, and a very respectful and thought provoking piece too. May it bring change.

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 20/01/2011 08:06

Just reading the piece in the Guardian, and listening to it on Radio 2.

noddyholder · 20/01/2011 08:10

This is a great use of collective power.Riven and others like her deserve all the help they need I really hope this has some effect.DC is full of shit though and is dismantling this country's services at an alarming rate.

SecretNutellaFix · 20/01/2011 08:12

Lady from Scope is giving a very measured and detailed account of the problems faced by families with higher care needs.

Hulababy · 20/01/2011 08:15

On BBC radio 2 news too

sixteencandles · 20/01/2011 08:16

BBC especially are dealing with the issues very well, no hysteria. Well done Riven and dd.

CaveMum · 20/01/2011 08:19

Let's not forget, as has been pointed out on the main thread, that Riven's family were not exactly well-supported when Labour were in charge. This is a mainly a Local Authority problem, though it is right to call the current Government on it.
