Anyone following Austerity Mum blog story?

It's really quite hilarious. Rich lady writes blog about how to cut back eg take fewer helicopter rides. Now it's revealed that she's the wife of boss at Price Waterhouse Cooper. Has anyone been following her blog? Sounds hilarious, in sort of tasteless 'how the other lives' kind of way

I read about this a few weeks ago and assumed it was a bit tongue in cheek and really more of a dig at her husband.

oh Blush i thought it was funny and a bit taking the p*ss really. sort of rich slummy mummy.

ISNT · 31/01/2011 17:28

That was how I read it too traceybath - the bits I have seen anyway.

OntheQT · 31/01/2011 17:34

Have namechanged for obvious reasons - her husband is in big trouble at work about this (unsurprisingly). I can't believe she was posting for over a year and he never bothered to read them.

thing is, if Ashley Unwin's bosses at PwC are annoyed,i'm not really sure what for. for being truthful about what sort of person he is? for his wife daring to reveal exactly how their obscenely high paid bosses live?

surely he hasn't done anything wrong per se, it's more that his wife has been too honest from a PR POV?

OntheQT · 31/01/2011 20:11

Absolutely. And I have to say I don't blame them - it's a bit difficult trying to maintain that we're living in tough times when a senior partner's wife is blabbing on a blog about how much he gets paid.

Not that great for staff morale either (no payrises for the last two years)

Oh well in that case I can totally see where Ashley Urwin's bosses at PwC are coming from, that would be hugely embarassing. i'm surprised his wife didn't realise when she was posting that this might be a ,... ahem... delicate topic... even outside of a recession! very odd story/lack of judgement really Confused

Northernlurker · 31/01/2011 20:55

I'm not surprised she didn't think it might land him in hot water. She's obviously breathtakingly self-centred.

Clytaemnestra · 31/01/2011 21:00

Well, if he gets fired she can start another blog about how she copes with NO income :) That should give her lots of material to write about :D

Yes, and I do wonder if that was her intention all along? OK so she wanted to show off to the sisterhood (ie you and me) that her husband is a prat but it's all got a bit out of hand.
Poetic justice if he got the sack because of her snide articles. Maybe soon he'll be an unemployed prat, which might make room for someone who really needs a job.

frgr · 01/02/2011 09:04

Crossword, I have to admit that I've googled him. he has an impressive career to bolster him through tough times if he does get the sack. Look at this rundown of his time at EMI:

* Group Board member
* Group Transformation Director
* COO of Music Division
* CEO of North America, UK and Ireland
* HR Director.

... And how long did he spend at EMI, doing all of that? 18 months Hmm source

that can't be right can it? that's a very odd time period to spend in 5 jobs, just over 12 weeks in each if you split it equally? am i missing something here? maybe they've made a typo on the dates...

sherby · 01/02/2011 09:13

Is she referring to the general public as 'animals' in that first post Hmm

I feel sorry for her, what a nob

sherby · 01/02/2011 09:14

oh she's talking about her children, even better

frgr · 01/02/2011 09:16

which one sherby? can't find reference to that?

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 01/02/2011 09:37

I think it's quite funny, ans that it was meant to be, and that it is even somewhat satirical.

MmeLindt · 01/02/2011 09:48

The bits that I have read are quite funny, and I think exaggerated (poetic license).

I was surprised to see that she was writing this openly, with photo and identifying posts.

I live in an area of Switzerland where so many people live like that - the helicopters, the chalet in the mountain, the staff, Moncler in Val d'Isere...

It is a different world, and when you are living in that world it becomes normal. I know a woman whose H works for Barclays. She only ever flies Business Class, would not consider anything else.

Chalets for the week cost not just 4 or 5000 but 10x that, and more.

When you live like that, it is easy to forget how privileged you are.

thebrownstuff · 01/02/2011 09:49

I'm with thecoalition. She sounds like an intelligent woman who's been ground down by the twattery of her husband. Lonely, bored and fed up - against her better judgement, she starts what she thinks will be an inconspicuos/unremarkable blog using wry humour to escape the reality of her hollow life. Also as a dig at her husband who it seems is so disinterested in his wife's life he hasn't noticed she has a blog based on sly digs at him....

So nah! I feel sorry for her more than anything. No hard feelings from me that thtey can take half term holidays in the maldives and helicopter rides. Money doesn't always buy happiness (although it helps!).

FWIW, I have once in a while called my DCs my little dogs. They are remarkably similar. They need walking, potty training etc. Grin

I LOVE this, it's truly amazing what some people blog.

The net is written in ink not pencil is a truism most should rememberWink

LovesItWhenPeopleLookMoreUnhingedThanMeTiggaxx

MmeLindt · 01/02/2011 09:53

Absolutely, Tigga. A good warning to bloggers not to reveal more than they would like others to know.

I do not post details about where we are, nor what my DH does. I rarely post about him or my DC anymore and have removed a few of my earlier posts.

OntheQT · 01/02/2011 10:00

I think it's just a bit dim of her not to realise that she is hugely identifiable - her husband is pretty high profile in his field and you don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to work it out.

I agree with you MmeLindt and tigga - you cannot forget that the net is open to anyone and everyone (and if you have a creative writing urge to get things out, you can actually make your blog private).

She's seriously damaged his reputation and so put her gilded cage into jeopardy. Maybe that's what she wanted?

MmeLindt · 01/02/2011 10:02

I doubt she has seriously damaged his reputation or put his career on the line. It will have been forgotten about by next week if she keeps her head down and doesn't give any interviews.
