Edward Parry, the park's director of operations, said: "We were unaware of the animal by-product regulations about keeping dead animals in a covered enclosure.

Good grief Hmm Sad

:(

Just being Devil's advocate here but this
'Penny, of Hawick, Scotland, claimed standards at the park nosedived after her partner - who worked as curator - lost his job last year. '
is interesting. I cannot believe that they would leave the animals like that, is it not possible they were posed?

allnightlong · 10/01/2011 16:29

Wow that's horrific not only the terrible way these poor animals have been murdered culled but the way their bodies have been treated afterwards.
I had no idea that safari parks culled in the first place!
Surely if some of the animals were rare breads other parks, farms and sanctuaries would have taken them on?!

KalokiMallow · 10/01/2011 16:31

I didn't either allnightlong, though I guess they don't (to my knowledge) have them in a situation with an entirely natural ecosystem, eg. no predators to keep numbers down.

Apparently people have been operating to get this place formally inspected as standards have been slipping badly for years, very careless in their care for animals, some of it quite distressing. There has been a good degree of mud-slinging against the photographer for damage limitation purposes but others who have been on the 'inside' have also spoken out.

Quite sickening but all zoos cull animals, they normally keep quiet about it.

PaisleyLeaf · 10/01/2011 22:22

What's that sticking out of the bins? Looks like more bits of carcass. Seems more like food for the big cats than ordinary bins.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 11/01/2011 09:07

Tis a sad fact of life. Chiang Mai zoo had plans to serve excess wildlife to diners. Zebra and giraffe were mooted.
I think it is curious that the photographer's partner lost his job....................

ilythia · 11/01/2011 09:45

yes quite kreecher.

If you find the 'zookeeper' thread on here there is a zookeeper saying how they feed ponies to the lions (not alive!) Culling and feeding to other animals is something I have no problem with.

Link to BBC news article where manager says much the same
