What a choice!

Labour must be resting easy in their beds

I'm not so sure though Cam. Ken Clarke has a sly appeal. If he gets in I think Labour do need to be midly concerned. But not if it is that other one whose name comes so naturally to hand

Oh they're all awful aren't they. Not one of them has said 'I want to be leader of this party because I've got some fantastic ideas and I really want the chance to make a difference to this country' - it's all 'We need to change so that we can WIN and get POWER'. Would be sad actually if KC won, really don't like him or his attitudes, but can't stand any of them really. My only hope is that they elect a truly awful leader who leads the party into a complete demise.

I have a bit of a theory that the few gains they made at the last election were entirely as a result of a 'Protest against the War' vote, aimed at Tony Blair, and once Gordon Brown (or whoever) is leader those votes will come back!

Oh it made me laugh on the lunchtime news when there was some snide reference to the tired old leadership of the other parties (or words to that effect) - er, hello?

Marina · 05/10/2005 10:10

I was impressed with David Cameron's genuine commitment to ensuring children with SN get the right education for their needs. But then, you could argue that this is just enlightened self interest as he is the parent of a child with multiple disabilities...
I can't remember the phrasing worse luck but someone was exceptionally funny and cruel about Malcolm Rifkind in yesterday's Berliner!

buffytheharpsichordcarrier · 05/10/2005 10:19

I do like David Cameron but I think he is living in cloud cuckoo land if he thinks he is going to be the next Tony B.
too posh

dont worry

they'll pick the one that is most shite

they seem determined to go under

freakyzebra · 05/10/2005 10:21

Ken Clarke is too old, too full of soundbites (I heard most of his speech yesterday).

Have been looking at the text of David Cameron's speech , he does come across well.

foxinsocks · 05/10/2005 10:24

I'm not pro Tory but I would rather there was an active and properly supported opposition in this country - I still don't like the fact that while Labour is in government, their worst and most feared enemy seems to be apathy!

I'm quite impressed by David Cameron - he won't get in because he's not experienced enough but I thought his speech was by far the best of the lot. I feel sorry for him that he's being picked on because he went to Eton - after all, it's the parents that choose the school (as we all know!).

I'm sure whoever becomes leader (Davis or Clarke I reckon) will choose Cameron in some sort of supporting role - I think they would be mad not to.

buffytheharpsichordcarrier · 05/10/2005 10:25

not having a go at Cameron for his background btw. he seems very intelligent and switched on, but I just think the population at large won#t warm to him in the right numbers.
Enid rofl

foxinsocks · 05/10/2005 10:28

that wasn't directed at you harpsichord - it's all the press that he's been given about going to Eton

you can think what you like about him

LadyMarinaofSarfLondon · 05/10/2005 10:30

so that will be David Davis then Enid or possibly Mad-Eye Moody Rifkind...

LadyGuinevereofCAMelot · 05/10/2005 12:37

I get the impression that the "party faithful" (whoever they may be) are supporting Ken and the rest of them one of the Davids

The conference commentators do seem to think that that the Young Pretender, whilst being able to string a sentence or two together, doesn't quite swing it

If Rifkind got it I think the Conservatives might as well give up now

ladybundyful · 05/10/2005 12:37

they really are pants aren't they?
