A minority Tory government. that is the only viable alternative at the moment otherwise rioting may become popular

I think you'd get just as much rioting with a Tory-only gov. Goes with the territory Grin

I think they should just rerun elections when there is no overall majority until eventually we all get fed up and vote one in :-).

The problem with this silly coalition is that IF it was doing a good job, we couldn't vote it back in (how do you vote for a coalition). If it isn't, you just have to hope, when you get to vote again, that enough people have got pissed off with one party, that another takes precedence and we don't have this ridiculous situation again.

(with one party so desperate for power, they just go back on everything they've pledged!)

GabbyLoggon · 10/12/2010 15:32

yes, Fox, but the Liberals would like to do a DEAL with the Tories at the next election...I dont think it is likely to happen

A MINORITY gov would have to play it carefully; they could be brought down

The Conservatives are wankers.
The Lib. Democrats are lying wankers.

Or gabby could revive the Monster Raving Looney party and become prime minister. She talks more sense than most politicians.

RosieSippingGinWithSanta · 10/12/2010 18:46

I think we should have lots of independant Mumsnet candidates for the next election, I quite fancy me chances at ripping in to debating with Dave and his new appendage Cleggy, not that they have a hope in hell of getting anywhere near next time

RosieSippingGinWithSanta · 10/12/2010 18:48

Is the honourable member being unreasonable, can you imagine Grin

I thought a lot of people were in favour of PR or other fairer voting systems? If so, and if that's what we vote for in a referendum, this is how politics is as standard. No one party with an overall mandate but a constant shifting of allegiances between small and large parties, collaborating and compromising on pre-election promises. The Lib Dems big mistake was to make pledges they knew they couldn't keep if they were in this position.... and whether they'd have pitched in with Labour or Conservatives that would have still been the case. The alternative of everyone going it alone and trying to form minority governments means we end up with a 'Belgium' situation... no effective government at all. Agree with GiddyPickle... four and a half year is an eternity in politics.

I agree with the news commentator who said, at the time of the GE when all the results were in and no party had won... " It may be the publics way of saying that there is a plague on all your houses."
