Thought provoking article by Meredith Kercher's father

Here

Poor man. I found this bit very surprising "Kurt Knox and his ex-wife Edda Mellas have never expressed their condolences to our family for our grievous loss. There has been no letter of sympathy; no word of regret. Instead, I have watched them repeatedly reiterate the mantra of their daughter?s innocence."

I wonder why they've never said anything to Meredith's parents - too worried it would come close to an admission of guilt? Very strange that they haven't said anything, surely?

It is truly awful. Sad I have a dd. I look at the world and hate the idea that I HAVE to let her out there.

wonder if we will ever know what really happened. As said, the way this was tried in the media was beyond awful - I'm surprised any trial could then be totally unbiased.

DuelingFanjo · 04/12/2010 21:11

I think it's so sad that Meredith's father feels like this. Does he even mention the other man convicted (Guede) in the whole article? The only person who left any real DNA at the scene.

I personally do hope that Amanda Knox and Rafaelle Sollecito's convictions are thrown out at appeal and that the Kerchers do manage to get some closure. All evidence presented shows that it's a massive miscarriage of justice.

Last I am going to say on this thread though as I know there are a lot of people who think they are guilty despite the evidence to the contrary.

DF, I agree.

giveitago · 05/12/2010 16:49

DF - he does mention guede and the solecito (spelling?) - his article is about the celibrity of the AK.

I don't know either way - but on appeal they will surely examine the conduct of the trial and if it was lacking she could be freed on a technicality - all well and good but if that happens it will only serve to prove that the trial was was not conducted in accordance with the law rather than prove that she is innocent. I assume that solecito and guede are also appealing?

giveitago · 05/12/2010 16:49

Gawd - cannot spell today.

BellsaRinging · 05/12/2010 17:01

I thought that the whole reason Guerde was dealt with differently was that he pleaded guilty? Or have I got it all wrong?

Portofino · 05/12/2010 21:15

Yes. He did plead guilty. He had no reason to be there at all, yet his fingerprints/DNA were at the murder scene. Hmmmm who did it?

Portofino · 05/12/2010 21:22

I am not an expert on Italian law, but as far as I can see the trial was carried out within that framework. What is a big question to me is the forensic evidence. That is what condemned them. Knox and Sollecito that is. Imho, after just a bit of reading up on it, it is well dodgy. If this crime/trial had taken place in the UK I do not believe a Jury would/could have given a Guilty verdict.

giveitago · 06/12/2010 11:42

Portofino - but if the trial was flawed and goes against Italian law they could, I suppose, be let out for that reason. Doesn't prove innocence or guilt though.

There have been plenty of cases in the UK where defendents have walked free due to many reason - flawed trial, police skewing evidence etc - but it doesn't mean anything other than the trial was flawed. The UK justice system is far from perfect.

I am Shock they are making a film of this - 'The Amanda Knox story'. Is it just me or is there something horribly crass about this? If I were the Kercher family I would be revolted, actually.
