So sad.

According to Twitter her last words were, "tell David Cameron if he messes up my beloved NHS I'll bloody come back and haunt him".

Not sure if that is true though.

She had a gorgeous voice. Very sad Sad

lottiejenkins · 12/10/2010 08:11

You beat me to it! I always really liked her and thought she spoke a lot of sense!! Sad

MmeBodyInTheBasement · 12/10/2010 08:11

Oh, seems it was true.

I heard that on Radio 4 too, MmeBody.

I always really liked her and I am very sorry for her family.

So sad. I'm really emotional about this. She was an amazing person, I really wonder where we will be without her.

Poledra · 12/10/2010 09:05

Did you hear Jay Rayner talking about her on R4? It was very moving to hear the way he spoke of her, and of his father.

MmeBodyInTheBasement · 12/10/2010 09:37

Just chatting on Twitter about the description of Claire Rayner as an "agony aunt", when she was so much more.

A campaigner for patients rights, a novelist, a wife and mother.

WinkyWinkola · 12/10/2010 10:43

I really liked Clare Rayner. Sad

But love her parting shot to Cameron!

tefal · 12/10/2010 11:31

Loving her parting comments.

MissM · 12/10/2010 12:34

I loved Claire Rayner. She always spoke absolute common sense and really genuinely cared about what she believed in. Very sad.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 12/10/2010 13:09

Lovey. I remember when she wrote the agony advice in the Daily Mirror. Everybody was 'lovey' to her Grin
wonder if Jay needs some consoling

Sad Sad Sad

Among her many other achievements and passions she was also a humanist and atheist. Her chapter in The Atheist's Guide To Christmas is marvellous and celebratory.

aristocat · 12/10/2010 13:48

how sad Sad she was a remarkable lady

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 12/10/2010 14:56

Did anyone hear the archive interview with her on Woman's Hour this morning?

They were asking her about her childhood (very poor and with a mother who hit her), and congratulating her on breaking the cycle of abuse with her own kids - she said "it was no accident" and talked about how hard she had to work to unlearn all the bad stuff. Lovely woman, great nurse, campaigner, writer.

She will be missed so much.

OrmRenewed · 12/10/2010 14:57

Very sad. I liked her a lot.

I listened to an interview Jeremy Vine did with her last year about being an evacuee. It was one of the most moving things I've heard on the radio Sad - I had to pull over and have a cry.

Really sad to hear this.
