So go on then all knowledgable MNetters... if the big slashes are yet to come, what will they be?

Are we talking tax rises or what? People keep saying no part of peoples lives will be untouched and the savings needed are massive, so can we please have some examples of what might actually be cut?

I think

CB stopped at 16

Winter Fuel Allowance either stopped or tied to Pension Credits.

Pensioners bus pass either scrapped or again tied to pension credits.

Perhaps fuel Duty to rise.

mankyscotslass · 08/10/2010 17:15

DLA means tested, agree with Riven on that one, my mum will be affected.

EMA scrapped

I'm wondering if the will do away with the having to be in education or training til 18.

llareggub · 08/10/2010 17:15

Dooooooooooooooooom.

Northernlurker · 08/10/2010 17:20

Cutting funding for hospital transport would be a marvellous idea fo cost savings:

It would restrict the access the poor have to hsopital treatments such as dialysis

They will die instead

The savings on transport will be dwarfed by the savings on treatment - dialysis, radiotherapy etc are all very expensive.

It will also save on other benefits as the people who die were probably on benefits such as DLA.

Fab - of course it's totally lacking in compassion.....but that won't be a problem will it? After all we're all in this together........

DinahRod · 08/10/2010 17:22

Health and aid spending will be ring fenced, while defence and education will face cuts of between 10% and 20%.

The talks of 40% will make 25% look reasonable

2shoes · 08/10/2010 17:26

poverty and unemployment

mankyscotslass · 08/10/2010 17:33

I reckon they will probably put in a quicker rise in the age for receiving state pension too.

llareggub · 08/10/2010 17:35

I heard, from a good source, that Dave C and his mates dined at Simpsons in Birmingham after the conference and drank stupidly expensive wine. I've checked the wine list online and their most expensive bottle is £2020. I guess they won't be missing their child benefit.

Still, we're all in it together, aren't we?

RandomMusings · 08/10/2010 17:37

innit, though llareggub

sigh

PfftTheMagicDragon · 08/10/2010 17:52

Child benefit scrapped from age 16

EMA scrapped

All women to chop off one leg (if they are generous you can choose which one) and we can sell them to medical research. This will fund a new "straight persons allowance" paid directly to white straight middle class men over the age of 40.

More education cuts. We are suffering clawbacks at DS's school already. Lollipop crosser has to go - some child will probably be run over this year.

grumpypants · 08/10/2010 17:57

CB cut further, free childcare (15 hrs) to be meanstested or to go. Free children's prescriptions to go or be meanstested. More requests for payment from higher rate tax payers, more cuts to services for the 'deserving poor'.

chibi · 08/10/2010 18:00

I feel like I woke up and the last twelve years never happened. I am really frightened. The only thing I console myself with is that they can only be in for 5 years and then we can get the fuckers out.

My youngest will at least have some kind of a child hood left.

TheCrackFox · 08/10/2010 18:28

I think CTC will go as it will explain why the Tories are so insistent on CB not being means tested - it would be so easy to combine with CTC.

NHS dental treatment for children to go - it will be means tested.

Retirement age to increase to 69.

How about

Camo, Camo, Camo,
Out, out, out.

or

Call me Dave,
call him OUT

llareggub · 08/10/2010 18:34

I feel another Haiku thread coming on.

Flighttattendant · 08/10/2010 18:39

I don't see why some of these things are not means tested in the first place. Maybe it's just me? I had a feeling New Labour wanted to keep the more wealthy voters happy so made all these things universal...when it's not really a good use of public funds to pay for free stuff for people earning a huge amount of money anyway.

The crucial thing is I don't believe that salary is always related to how hard a person works. There are people working tremendously long hours in horrifying jobs who get almost nothing to take hom, and those with a fairly privileged job earning ridiculous money.

The things people need should be available to them regardless of salary, but those who can pay easily should.

I don't know. I've seen people saying on here that they can easily afford to lose such and such. So I guess there is a line, but I wouldn't want the responsibility of drawing it.
