so if we really are all in it together - let's march

can't even keep up with the tally so far but it's all anti-family and pretty much nothing else. Does Dave think we're all too busy with the kids to do anything about it? Here's a quick run through some of the cuts announced so far (thanks to guardian, link below)

abolition of Child Trust Funds;

the Health in Pregnancy Grant;

Surestart Maternity Grant for second child;

uprating of benefits by the CPI rather than RPI;

the three-year freeze on child benefits and the introduction of housing benefit limits.

Pensioners and the childless remain unscathed so far. www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/oct/07/family-unfriendly-con-dems
if we're ' all in this together' then let's stick together - and protest together.

cuts to cb are just the thin edge. The Lib-Con coalition think we should all be left to sink or swim. End up on benefits cos you lost your job? Well you should have thought of that before you had those 3 kids. scrounger. No extra money coming your way. What's going to happen to your children if you aren't given any money to feed them? I am imagining they will be taken off you and put in care. What kind of society allows that to happen?

I am very up for some kind of protest - at all these family centred cuts - there's a lot of us on here - we can make a difference

i'm in

southeastastra · 07/10/2010 22:47

wow for a mothers website we're really doing well! Grin

GeekyGirl · 07/10/2010 22:48

I am childless and in danger of redundancy due to massive public sector cuts - will find out next week - so it's not just families suffering.

nameymcnamechange · 07/10/2010 22:48

I'm definitely in!

That makes three of us then Grin.

memoo · 07/10/2010 22:50

can I be in your gang?

sanfairyann · 07/10/2010 22:52

Woo hoo. (secretly glad anyone replied at all Smile) come on then gals. let's march. . . or even better a sit in (can bring along our lattes and cake for extra irony). Geeky girl you are more than welcome to join us - all us 'little people' are suffering in this recession

OP posts:
memoo · 07/10/2010 23:01

Do we have to march right now or can I have a brew first?

sanfairyann · 07/10/2010 23:06

Oh i've got to finish off the wine first Grin but am coming right back to this thread tomorrow and the day after etc. What do you all fancy as our protest of choice?

OP posts:
Nancy66 · 07/10/2010 23:18

I'm out...sorry but your thread title made me laugh out loud.

memoo · 07/10/2010 23:20

why?

Meglet · 07/10/2010 23:22

If we're marching can we go via the National Gallery as I enjoy taking DS there and we might as well make this educational.

And it would need to go past several Pret a Mangers.

sanfairyann · 07/10/2010 23:24

Grin oh this is so not going to be a replay of the G7 protest

OP posts:
llareggub · 07/10/2010 23:25

I'm in. Our activism has to get real now. Electronic activism is all well and good but we need to get off our arses and get out the placards.

Sheesh, it feels like the 80s again.

But yes, abso-bloody-lutely I'm in.

ReadingTeaLeaves · 07/10/2010 23:27

Please add 'up to 60% cuts to budgets for SureStart' (which will affect tonnes of stuff, including subsidised childcare places, one o'clock clubs and much much more) to your list. Seriously this is A BIG DEAL. And I'm a gobsmacked there's not a bigger reaction on MN at the moment to be honest. The whole 'well there has to be cuts somewhere' argument misses the point that the government can make hard choices about priorities which could just as well result in a decision that children's services, particularly those aimed at the most vulnerable, are more important than (for example) nuclear weapons programmes (trident), bankers bonuses etc.

(I'm in by the way). London based and ready to rally!!!

sanfairyann · 07/10/2010 23:28

Hurrah. (so who knows how to organise a march then??). If it's only me and my kids we are still going through with it. I'm not having it said that I did eff all but moan on mumsnet (to be fair that's what dh usually says but now I'm going to prove him wrong)

OP posts:
KaraStarbuckThrace · 07/10/2010 23:36

I'd be up for something. I have just joined the Labour party.

It sucks to be in a family.

DC & NC haven't a fucking clue.

Geekygirl - join in, I am also opposed to public sector job cuts - after all, sack the public sector workers and where do they end up? On the dole coz there are no fucking private sector jobs for them to go to. Surely it would be better to keep you employed and therefore a) paying tax and b) not being paid benefits??

Purplebuns · 07/10/2010 23:38

I live in backwaters but I care! :)

ReadingTeaLeaves · 07/10/2010 23:38

Will check back tmrw night too. Might be able to rally some publicity but would want a bit more interest that we have at the moment so let's all get out everyone we know to start reliving the spirit of the 1980s!!

lowrib · 07/10/2010 23:39

I'm in Smile.

We've got to do something. They've only been in a matter of weeks and look what they're up to already. Where will we be in 5 or 10 years time?

caramelwaffle · 07/10/2010 23:39

Bump

citybranch · 07/10/2010 23:41

I don't post that often but I lurk on a daily basis and I am definitely up for a protest. Also London based!

loopyloops · 07/10/2010 23:44

Can you (OP) request for the two threads to be added together please?

caramelwaffle · 08/10/2010 00:38

As you were everyone...
