Well they are saying she's brave
but I think it's a bad example to set to kids when British rail are telling them not to play on live rails

NiceShoes · 05/10/2010 13:54

I would not dream of being so daft bold. I would quietly quake. Can not actually decide if she was heroic or daft.

sethstarkaddersmum · 05/10/2010 13:55

I think the importance of standing up to the yobs outweighs that.
Though I am surprised she didn't get arrested.

Wow. She is brave. Wish I was.

sethstarkaddersmum · 05/10/2010 13:57

I think brave rather than daft too.

I'm afraid I'm rather liking her, so i seem to be going against the consensus. i'd pick her for my netball team.

ajandjjmum · 05/10/2010 13:58

Good for her!

comewhinewithme · 05/10/2010 13:59

Good on her ... I would have quietly seethed on the train then moaned about it on MN where I would be told I should think about the yob's needs and maybe they were just having a bad day Grin.

warthog · 05/10/2010 14:00

i take my hat off to her. well done.

and i don't think for one moment she was condoning standing on the tracks.

nancydrewrocked · 05/10/2010 14:02

Definitely brave - why should anyone have to tolerate being verbally abused and terrified by mindless thugs and then not protected or assisted by those who are employed to do just that?

Good on her for standing up to them. And well done to the police for not arresting her for some sort of public order offence.

I like her style Smile

JaxTellersOldLady · 05/10/2010 14:05

I think good for her, she actually DID something. Shame on Arriva for not acting sooner. They could have contacted the Police to meet them at the first station and it could all have been sorted out then.

I am absolutely sick of people thinking they can behave in whatever manner they see fit and that nobody will do anything or say anything. We just have to accept it.

nannynobnobs · 05/10/2010 14:09

Definitely brave. It shouldn't have to come to a woman standing in front of a train just to get the police called. The train staff were just as bad as the yobs for ignoring her. They had a small child with them and were being intimidated by a gang of football hooligans FFS!!

YunoYurbubson · 05/10/2010 14:18

Brave lady. Good on her.

southeastastra · 05/10/2010 14:20

depressing that none of the 'yobs' stood up to the others. depressing story

grendel · 05/10/2010 17:48

I am so full of admiration for her. Wish I was that brave.

BionicEar · 05/10/2010 18:41

Thumbs up for this brave woman - am full of admiration doubt there would be many who would have stood up to a load of drunken yobs.

Wonder if she's a Mumsnetter?

SolidGoldBrass · 05/10/2010 18:45

Sory but what comes to my mind is 'officious, attention-seeking twat'.
I bet you anything the 'yobs' were not actually harassing other people until she shoved her nose in and complained about them swearing or something.

sethstarkaddersmum · 05/10/2010 18:47

surely if she was she would have come back and posted AIBU to have stood in front of a train full of yobs?

OP posts:
sethstarkaddersmum · 05/10/2010 18:47

xposted, I meant surely if she was a MNer not surely if she was officious etc.

Loving the use of twats in the comments underneath the article, how did that slip the radar!

claricebeansmum · 05/10/2010 18:53

But SolidGoldBrass why should she have to hear swearing and her five year old child hear foul language on their journey on public transport? She and her family have the right to enjoy their journey without itimidation etc.

If more of us stood up to this behavior I think the world would be a better place.

nancydrewrocked · 05/10/2010 19:36

SGB in the article it says she intervened only when the train pulled into a station where they started abusing a woman on the platform.

Prior to that it appears that she had ignored the "shoting on swearing* for at least a part of the journey.

Frankly shame on everyone else present that a woman with a young child was the only one to intervene when another woman was being abused.

SoupDragon · 05/10/2010 19:39

Personally, i would have simply called the police myself.

foxytocin · 05/10/2010 19:42

ACK no! you should have warned it was a DM link. now I have done clicked on it!

whomovedmychocolate · 05/10/2010 19:44

How did she not get nicked for pulling the train alarm though - that stops the train doesn't it. And you get fined if there is not good reason. I don't think 'nasty footy fans are swearing' is good reason and the article states this happened before they shouted at the woman at the station and she did her standing on the tracks bit.

FWIW I think she's a bit of a numpty, had a train come the other way she could have been blown under it and it's a bloody bad example to her son and everyone else.

Also I'm assuming there were not just evil footy fans on the train. They are now stuck in the middle of nowhere, Wales, because of her actions as well!
