HomeReponsibility Protection - anyone know if/how it's changing?

As well as the money, being in receipt of child benefit also confers Home Responsibility Protection to your National Insurance record. It's aready been trimmed back to when your youngest child hits 12.

But what now? If you are to lose your CB in 2013, will you also lose your HRP? Losing the cash is one thing, but that's a heck of a lot easier to deal with than losing many years from your NI record, and therefore things like your state pension.

Has there been any announcement on this?

No one will actually loose their CB. What's being proposed is that if there's a higher tax rate payer in the house then they will pay the CB back through their tax.

So the claimant of CB can still continue to claim CB and will get all that that entails.

However the Chancellor did make comments indicating that they hope that people will just not bother claiming for CB. So people will have to look carefully into what's going on.

I have been googling for this today and found nothing

And as Badgers says, George O (I tried to abbreviate him to GO and it made me so happy. GO. GO.) has been suggesting he hopes people just don't claim

A lot of women just don't know about this, and how important it is to claim in their own name rather than putting their dh on the form

They could just not claim if their dh is over the threshold, thinking its unimportant, and then lose out on HRP

It's worth checking how many years you have towards your pension now, and if you will be affected by the HRP or not. I think from what I have been told when I asked for a pension forecast, is that I have almost 30 years needed for a full pension anyway, so in that sense, I won't be losing on the NI.

I would have a much larger shortfall if HRP was withdrawn.

But does BP's post above mean I would continue to claim, but and be a £0.00 recipient? Not exactly going to save much on administration then.

I hope it becomes less confusing idc

HRP is important and I thought I was the only one that realised that the media/Cameron are not mentioning how the govt are affecting people in more ways than one with this withdrawal. However, in years to come will there be a pension at all to worry about?

HRP has already been re-placed. It's now Families and Carers Credits and trying to get anyone to tell you about it is a nightmare. I spent last Friday on the phone to Child Benefit, Pensions Service, 2nd Pensions Serice number, NI Helpline and Carers Allowance Unit - no-one could answer my query. Our problem? AFter 6 years of me getting the CB, I've gone back to work f/t. DH will be working 5 hours per week, and doing the bulk of the childcare. We can't simply transfer the CB to his name, but I can't get a definate answer as to whether he can get credits towards his NI if I'm getting the CB!
I think if you are still getting CB you will still get P&C Credits. But if you lose CB - who knows? Probably not the CB office or any other division of HM Revenue and Customs if my experience last week was anything to go by.
