Here. I think Ed has the power to unite the party, though I feel for David, having been the favourite to win.

Its still going to be a tough fight with the Con-Libs though.

The Con/Libs are not too unhappy with this decision, I think you'll find. Left-leaning, union-backed Ed will find it very difficult to convince Tory or LD voters that he is a man of the centre. That 'Red Ed' tag that annoys him so much will stick like glue. And he'll also find it difficult to vote for public spending cuts (as he's claiming he will) with the likes of Bob Crow quietly reminding him who got him the job in the first place. His more established brother has many supporters in the parliamentary party - could make the Blair Brown hostility years look like a mere tiff.

I thought it would be david but I guess if the unions have block votes ed would be the guy.

Hard to get labour to convince the electorate at this point but at least then there will be different policy ideas given the spread of centre left and centre within the current govt.

I'm looking forward to this.

In a way I hope the coalition goes full term as it will take labour that long to sort itself out.

I don't know. Part of me thinks that Ed is a good choice, as he only has to bring back the Labour faithful and disillusioned Lib Dems into the fold.

Other hand, David would have been a more populist choice.

I think David would have been a tougher opponent for the Tories. But I think Ed has bigger caHOOnas than his big bro.

David really should have stood against that bloody Brown dinosaur that last time imho.
