The sun just came out for working career women

I work in Professional Services in the City, and never thought I'd see the day when a professional firm would actively promote flexible working for it's high-flying staff. It is obviously no longer a strange disease to want to use your brain as well as raise your family.

Here

I have been pushing for exactly these type of standard offerings where I work, and A&O have suddenly given me ammunition to pressurise my own firm with. At last we see flexibility as something 'normal' and not an indulgence reluctantly endowed on the chosen (demanding) few.

Real progress.

Came on the same day as the news that it will take something like 54 years before women managers earn as much as men, though.

That's great. But, why is this pitched as a woman's issue?

I will celebrate when men and women are equally seeking flexible work to care for their children.

I see this law firm has given everyone the same perk, which is good. But time will tell if people's career's do not really suffer when they take up the offer. I'm sorry, do I sound like a sceptic? Blush

Of course time will tell. But it's a step in the right direction rather than just ignoring it completely.

And it acknowledges that it might not just be women who want this flexibility. Another excellent step forward.

As you say, careers may suffer etc etc, but then that battle will be fought too.

Yes, you are right. It is a step in the right direction. I should be more positive. It is a good thing.
