Dangers of dog poo

I read a while back someone posting that they'd never heard of anyone being injured by dog poo, so why were people making such a fuss. I thought at the time it sounded suspect.

Here's a link to the lead story on BBC Manchester just now. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-11012044

Most dog owners do scoop the poop, but many don't. If you choose not to, don't hide behind the excuse its not doing anyone any harm. Its unsightly, unhygenic and potentially dangerous.

Poor mite. I hate it when people don't clean up after their dogs.

ZZZenAgain · 18/08/2010 13:56

I have only ever seen anyone stoop to clean up after a dog once. Everyone else I have ever seen with a dog lets it dump anywhere

ZZZenAgain · 18/08/2010 13:57

that is a horrible story and leaving dog poo in a children's playground is really irresponsible. Hope her sight will return.

paisleyleaf · 18/08/2010 13:59

Oh poor little girl.
Thing is if a small child falls over, chances are they'll cry - then chances are they'll wipe their eyes.

ShinyAndNew · 18/08/2010 14:01

They're actually not too bad here wrt picking up mess. The vast majority of owners do pick up their mess and carry bags. The streets are still full of shit from the ones who don't.

I forgot my bags once Blush I went to a shop and bought a carrier bag. I'd rather spend 5p than just leave it there. I now always seem to have pockets and bags full of nappy bags. Even when I am not out with the dog.

I hope Aimee makes a full recovery.

vesela · 28/08/2010 20:30

Horrible. This happened to one of my second cousins - she lost the sight in one eye. I can't believe people think it's not dangerous.

SpeedyGonzalez · 28/08/2010 20:32

Poor girl. I did knowabout this danger, it's awful.

SiriusStar · 28/08/2010 20:34

I don't remember many assemblies from primary school but the one about dog poo and blindness was one of them. Not hurting anyone. Pah!

onimolap · 28/08/2010 20:34

Is fox poo as dangerous? Or cat? Or anything else roaming unattended at night?

Laska · 30/08/2010 15:14

Our dog is wormed regularly and poo is always picked up. It drives me mad seeing other owners failing to pick up - I generally smile sweetly and offer them a bag as they must have 'forgotten'. The embarrassment factor seems to work.

My son and his mates play football four times a week. And four times a week we (the parents of the team) have to remove piles of dog shit from the pitches. I once removed 12 piles from one pitch (Sight Hill, Edinburgh).

Boys go home with it all over them if we don't.

People let their dogs shit on football pitches.

Why?

sethstarkaddersmum · 03/09/2010 12:30

Onimolap - it might be, but cats like to bury their poo and foxes may (?) be less likely to do it where children play - though actually I did find some fox poo in our local play area the other day.

TotorosOcarina · 03/09/2010 16:58

Thats local to us and it infuriates me, that poor little girl.

If I were out with my dog and it pooed I would not leave it, ever. Even if I had to knock on someones door for a bag! I really would!

grannieonabike · 05/09/2010 10:09

I think the best way to fight back is with poetry. Write your own or post this one near footie pitches:

DON'T let your dog poo on the pitch.
The same rule applies to your bitch.
If your pooch needs a poop
Get a bag and a scoop
And pick up the poo on the pitch!

It's not Tennyson, but it's the best I can do.
