The ST are desperate for sales. Their subscription-only online version is going to bomb and they are starting to realise it.

Clarkson must be pissed off at being dragged into this. He's not the one being homophobic here. And he is one of the very few men who stopped making sexist remarks when it was pointed out to him so I have hopes that he'll get his head round homophobia at some point.

(Actually he works in TV and traditionally entertainment is one of the few industries that has been a safe place for gay people even back in the days when it was illegal. So I imagine he's not actually homophobic IRL, just has an unfortunate attitude to teasing straight men.)
