This article is about how government cuts have failed to be tested for equality.

I personally think that equality is wrongly being put on the back burner or worse ignored.

What are your thoughts and do you think it's inevitable given the current dire economic situation?

Inequality does seems to exist more strongly when the mainstream are under pressure... But surely, the most vulnerable need protection from these situations as much if not more than mainstream.

Are we going backwards?

i think it's inevitable with the current government in power.

I'm going to have a proper think for a longer reply (!), but in essence I think there are two ways of coping with recession:

Build/invest your way out of it
Cut everything as much as possible to ensure only the rich (big business...) are protected.

I agree wih the building and investing for growth solution that helps all. Why aren't we doing it? Perhaps it's related to the government in power.

Its the same with our local council, they have decided to make cuts to the help provided to housebound old people and children with SEN. Delightful. No one has proposed even a token cut to councillers pay and extras.
