I have been using BHS which it seems are really quite rubbish as they just do not dry.

Does anyone have any mid-price recommendations for soft, fluffy towels that wash well?

Thanks

from my MIL

I think she gets most of them from IKEA, good quality and cheap enough to through out if stained too badly (or if MIL comes with new nicer towels...)

FiveGoMadInDorset · 08/07/2010 09:08

John Lewis.

White Company. Or John Lewis.

My Mum has lovely ones from M&S (I think Autograph ones)

BellsaRinging · 08/07/2010 09:24

Bizarrely, Primark. I've had 3 from here and they wash far better than the expensive ones I was given by my mother.

LadyLapsang · 08/07/2010 11:07

John Lewis, especially would recommend 'Cawo Frottier' made in Germany ones as they can be washed at 60 (don't know if they still stock them) although I have just bought some of their 'Hotel' range in the sale.

flibbertigibbert · 08/07/2010 14:44

I have a load of Primark ones which I use as gym towels. The colour has faded a bit but the texture is still very good.

Thanks, had no idea Ikea did towels! Difficult to see the JL colours online-will have to have a look.

I got John Lewis ones and only the white ones are any good! All the cloloured ones (from the same range) never soak up the water on you.

'Tis not just me either, a few people staying at our house commented on them too!

Heard IKEA are good, as are Costco. I saw the BHS ones had won some kind of housekeeping award last time I was in, are these the ones people say are no good, or are the new ones better?

solo · 08/07/2010 16:01

Not very helpful, but India!!!

MrsJohnDeere · 08/07/2010 16:17

John Lewis standard ones here also disappointing.

M&S surprisingly good if you steer clear of the really cheap ones, IMHO.

brimfull · 08/07/2010 16:21

tkmaxx

Lionstar · 08/07/2010 16:24

I'm also in the 'oddly enough Primark' camp. Got some for the kids in there and they have washed surprisingly well, and the large bath sheet was only about £7!!

Alouiseg · 08/07/2010 16:26

The Jl ones shrink along the boarder which is very irritating for folding purposes as I like towels to be washed at 60 degrees.

kittens · 08/07/2010 16:32

Christ renaissance egyptian cotton - worth the extra as they last for years, really soft and fluffy and keep their colours really well.

They do lots of 20% offers so wait for one of those before buying them.

kittens · 08/07/2010 16:32

Should say Christy not Christ!!

oopsandbabycoconuts · 08/07/2010 16:36

I get alot of out towels at ASDA - they are great. I find that not washing them with softner helps with their drying ability. Softner coats the fibres and stops them soaking up water. No softner is a crispier towel but one that drys you better.

nannyl · 08/07/2010 18:05

peacock blue... expensive but worth EVERY penny

Good Housekeeping magazine did towels quite recently and Primark came out 2nd best
BHS was top

GH reviews

I have towels from the tv shopping channels (pricedrop tv) and they are lush

Mooos · 09/07/2010 06:26

I love IKEA's towels. They are lovely bright colours and cheap as chips. What I really love about themis they aren't too thick so they dry really quickly ( I like washing my towels every couple of days ).

I've actually just given away very thick (and expensive)(some designer name) ones to my MIL. They took up so much room in the drawers and were just a pain in the neck to dry.

KatyMac · 09/07/2010 06:32

I have Christy ones I got for my wedding 16 yrs ago - they are still a good shape, a good colour and as fluffy as ever

notasize10yetbutoneday · 09/07/2010 10:23

Thanks all, that GH survey was useful.

Christy (try TKMAXX) for me too; I received a couple when we got married (13 years ago) and they are still looking and feeling pretty good.

I've tried Primark towels on Good Housekeeping recommendation, and not impressed. I noticed that there were several pulls in the fabric. Also I bought them medium blue and after only a few washes they are now pale blue. I didn't use bio powder but did use a powder for colours. Don't now what GH is talking about. Trouble is I've bought M&S towels for ever but they seem to have changed suppliers and the quality is poor. I bought two new sets over the internet and the outer seams of three towels had to be resewn before use. Far too much hassle to send them back. I too am at a loss now as to where to buy new towels.
