Non bio and smelly jeans

Can anyone shed light on why non-bio makes my jeans (and anything thing else with them in a dark load) smell funny? It doesn't seem to matter what brand I use, what fabric conditioner I use with them, how often I do a 'cleaning load' to tart up the pipes.

Two different machine, new hoses in the last couple of weeks, same old problem.

Bio is fine as is non-bio with a light load. Any ideas?

Hoping that someone on the evening shift might have some ideas... (hopeful)

do you use conditioner? If I wash jeans and dh*s sweaty t-shirts I need to up the temperature to 40 leave out the conditioner and make sure that they dry quickly or else the whole load starts to smell of old male sweat. yuck.

I hadn't thought of leaving out the conditioner. I'll give that a try, thanks .

What temperature are you using? Smells in the machine and on washing are usually caused by bacteria which hasn't been killed in the wash. Jeans (my sons' and dh's) need to be washed at 60 degrees. So do sheets and towels. Apparently bacteria and dust mites can't be killed under 50 degrees.
