Dc are spending the whole weekend with gps this weekend, dh has tons of work to do for the end of his teaching course so I want to make the most of it and totally blitz the whole house. It's needed it for a while and i'm sick of living in a mess. It's not horrendous but it's not good enough.
I just wondered whether anyone had any top tips for cleaning etc. I am going to do everything and i mean everything - all rooms, particularly bathroom, oven, windows etc. Does anyone have any top products or tips that would leave my home sparkly and clean?

When Im doing a major blitz (tho usually only confined to a morning rather than a weekend!) I start by putting the coffee on, then gathering all dirty laundry and putting a load in the machine, and running dishwasher if full.

I tend to surface clean first (dont delve into cupboards etc) and then if I have time, I go back and do a cupboard or whatever. Starting at the top of the house and working your way downstairs is good too.

Also, keep a notebook and pencil to make notes of jobs that need done so that you can come back to it later, rather than get distracted with it now.

Lakeland oven cleaner and HD window cleaner (also avail in lakeland) are both recommended. Stardrops is a good all round cleaner.

If I know Im going to do a blitz in the next few days, I try a bit harder to keep the place tidier so I can actually clean rather than tidy on the day. I also go out and buy a nice candle, have a homemade dinner in freezer so I dont have to stop to cook, and buy some shloer (cause I dont drink alcohol) so I can sit down in a clean, nice smelling room with a nice drink and food at the end of the day.

Music - loud boppy music to spur you on.
Spray the oven with poisonous caustic cleaner stuff and leave.
Shove a load of laundry in the washing machine.
Start upstairs.
Have a bin bag and a bag for stuff you don't know what to do with.
Work your way down.
Have a bucket with all the rags and cleaning crap you need in one place.
Give yourself a coffee/biscuit break every hour or so for 5-10 minutes.
good luck

wish I could follow my own advice

Thanks for those, some good tips. I'd already planned an easy tea that can just be shoved in the (now clean) oven and a chilled bottle of wine for afterwards!! I like the idea of a scented candle too. Also like the idea of putting all cleaning stuff in a bucket and carrying it around. I think I need to start by cleaning out my cleaning cupboard!! I have so may sprays, cloths and lotions and potions in there, I never use half of them. I need a couple of good, all-round cleaners to do lots of jobs!

Sort through your cleaning cupboard before the weekend - get a box or bucket or whatever you have to hand and put in one spray for bathroom, one for kitchen etc etc, microfibre cloths (if you dont have any, buy some! - use damp instead of polish/window and mirror cleaner) bin bags, old toothbrush, rags, gloves etc. That way you will know of anything you are missing before you start.
