He's 4, we were walking home from school. He hasn't been to my house for months.

What does a 4 year old know? I wouldn't fret.

Is your house messy?

Lynli · 25/06/2010 19:57

My DS used to go to nursery school and tell the ladies there it was too messy. He would tidy the cupboards and arrange their shoes. I am an absolute neat freak to the point of OCD and this is what he thought was normal. Maybe your house is a little less neat than his.

All of my friend's kids would probably say that my house was messy. And they'd be right Meh.

It's not terribly messy but probably is when he comes as they get all the toys out. It is also probably a bit grubby round the edges. We are renting so not as houseproud as we otherwise might be. But it's a happy home all in all.

His house is very tidy. I realised this before I even went there as his mother (who is lovely) complained that her mother in law was cleaning the bathroom and she didn't do it properly.

I'd make do with someone wiping the seat after them tbh

They are coming round tomorrow.

My DS friend once came for tea - age 5 - to our tiny ground floor flat and asked as we pulled up outside which floor DS slept on. The friend thought we owned the whole block...he then stood in my galley kitchen andtold me it was smaller than his bedroom cupboard. (Probably was!!)

I pointed out that my tiny kitchen still had washing machine, cooker, tumble dryer, fridge freezer and sink just like his kitchen at home...which we discovered was HUGE when we dropped him off a little while later and his mum invited me in for a coffee. My whole house would have fitted in their downstair hall.

DS then went to his friends for the return visit and came home full of the fact the friend had a whole floor to himself with three rooms. (I think the friend was the youngest surprise member of other grown up children who had left home and bedrooms on the same floor!!)

It just surprised me because I didn't think children would pay that much attention to the surroundings...that they would be too busy playing with different toys to notice.
