de-cluttering wardrobes/having a good sort out

Anybody fancy joining me?

My clothes don't fit in my wardrobe now that we have moved - me and DH only have 1 wardrobe each now - hanging space with 1 shelf. Finding it HARD to keep on top of the clothes because there are too many of them. Think I am probably too fat for most of them.

How many clothes do most people have? I am tempted to get rid of 80% of it all and then go shopping - but we can't really afford unfortunatly.

Any tips for cleaning out wardrobes? Got to do the kids ones too...

I did it recently, probably moved out about 60%. I have put everything I took out in storage bags in the loft. The idea is that anything I haven't gone looking for gets chucked out / Charity Shopped in 12 months. Whether that will happen or not I don't know.

I've just done this due to weightloss, and it's sooooo satisfying.
Get everything out and go through everything. If you don't love it, get rid. I had so much 'OK' stuff in my wardrobe, but I would feel crap putting it on, and pass over most of it in favour of something else. If it doesn't fit quite right, get rid. Tbh I have quite a small collection of clothes now, compared to what I started with, but I actually have more stuff I can actually wear iyswim. I have 2 pairs of jeans, a pair of linen trousers, about 4 or 5 skirts, and various tops, maybe 5 dresses. Everything goes with everything else pretty much, and I can actually open my wardrobe and see clothes that look nice, that fit, and that I don't have to feel guilty about. And taking the unwanted stuff to the charity shop was my very good deed for that day, they were really grateful for it. I'm ashamed to say most still had the tags on

Or better still, organise a clothes swap party. My friend has been to a couple with great success

I desperately need to do this too so will keep an eye on this thread for tips.

My trouble is I always find that if I get rid of something, even if I haven't worn it for years, there will be a time soon after I bin it that I need it or that it would have gone really well with something I've just bought.

I also find myself making up reasons not to bin something eg. "I could keep that to wear when I'm decorating/gardening"
